Haley Lu Richardson and boyfriend Brett Dier are a picture perfect couple on the red carpet at the Five Feet Apart premiere on Thursday (March 7) in Los Angeles.

The 24-year-old actress stars in the new film, which will be hitting theaters on March 15.

Haley Lu plays a seventeen-year-old girl with cystic fibrosis who falls for another CF patient (Cole Sprouse) and they must navigate their relationship while staying at least five feet apart because of their illness.

Andy Grammer, whose new song “Don’t Give Up on Me” is featured in the film, was also in attendance.

Cole walked the red carpet with his girlfriend and Riverdale co-star Lili Reinhart.

Cole on his series Riverdale: “Every week you’re going, ‘Holy s–t, what the hell is going on?’ … It applies very well to the short attention span economy that we’ve built through social media, and I feel like it hits the nail on the head.”

“I think there’s this cynicism, or perhaps this pretentiousness within all of us that looks at teen dramas with a schlocky nature. And due to the fact that Riverdale sort of, in a self-aware capacity, also does that, while maintaining a level of quality with cinematography and with some other technical elements, I feel like it hit the nail on the head.”

Cole on cystic fibrosis and Five Feet Apart: “A lot of the emotional weight of the movie, at least acting-wise, came from recognizing the logical gravity of cystic fibrosis. It is an incredible heavy, heavy illness, and it affects young people. It affects people who are going through, for the first time, feelings of lust and love and experimentation, and growth and coming into oneself and the solidifying of identity whilst simultaneously the encroaching mortality that is so frightening that terrifies all of us.”

“I hope that the patients who watch this movie try to recognize that we have, within our finite set of rules, done the absolute best we could to represent exactly what it’s like.”

Haley on being an actor: “You have to be vulnerable, and feel comfortable being vulnerable, no matter what it is – whether you feel like you’re going to be eaten with a man with 27 personalities, or stepping into the shoes of someone who has an extreme life-threatening disease. It makes you connect you to yourself and your emotions in a way that nothing else really forces from you in life. So I do enjoy it, in a weird way, it’s therapeutic, it’s cathartic, it makes me more empathetic as a person, and it’s fun sometimes even.”

Haley Lu Richardson is opening up about what it’s really like to work with Cole Sprouse on their new movie, Five Feet Apart.

Speaking with Cosmopolitan, the 23-year-old actress shared that she was really surprised with the Riverdale star.

“The first time I met him was at this dinner and I didn’t know what to expect,” Haley shared. “That’s another thing I try to do, I try not to have expectations and honestly all I knew about him was the fact that he was on Suite Life with Zack and Cody. I’m not really up with all the cool things, I didn’t really know about Riverdale much. I was like, oh he’s the kid from Disney and I’m doing a movie with him.”

After that dinner, Haley and Cole got along pretty well and she was even more impressed with his work ethic.

“You know the thing I was really shocked about was how artistic he is and how he takes things really seriously,” she says. “He’s really smart and he’s really artistic in a genuine way, not in an artsy way. He’s an actual artist.”

Haley added, “I really appreciated that about working with him because we were really serious about these characters and wanting to do the best with them and do it in a grounded artful way. I was surprised by that with him.”

Cole Sprouse and Haley Lu Richardson are breaking the rules in the new trailer for their upcoming flick Five Feet Apart.

The movie follows cystic fibrosis patients Stella and Will, whose hospital’s strict rules dictate that they must stay five feet apart at all times.

Despite the rules, the couple are always flirting in the hallways, and slipping away from adult supervision; and the tension of every shared moment builds toward something unknown but impossibly exciting.

The movie is directed and produced by Jane the Virgin‘s Justin Baldoni.

The Riverdale star and the Edge of Seventeen actress start up a hospital romance in the new sneak peek, which dropped on Wednesday (January 16).

Here’s the synopsis: “Stella Grant (Haley) is every bit a seventeen-year-old: she’s attached to her laptop and loves her best friends. But unlike most teenagers, she spends much of her time living in a hospital as a cystic fibrosis patient. Her life is full of routines, boundaries and self-control — all of which is put to the test when she meets an impossibly charming fellow CF patient named Will Newman (Cole).”

“There’s an instant flirtation, though restrictions dictate that they must maintain a safe distance between them. As their connection intensifies, so does the temptation to throw the rules out the window and embrace that attraction. Further complicating matters is Will’s potentially dangerous rebellion against his ongoing medical treatment. Stella gradually inspires Will to live life to the fullest, but can she ultimately save the person she loves when even a single touch is off limits?”

The movie is directed and produced by Jane the Virgin‘s Justin Baldoni.
