The CW Is Developing a 'Nancy Drew' Spinoff - 'Tom Swift'

Nancy Drew is getting a spinoff!

The CW series is expanding and will dive into the world of Tom Swift, THR reports.

Based on the book series, Tom Swift will follow “the Black, gay, billionaire inventor who is thrust into a world of sci-fi conspiracy after the disappearance of his father. Tom takes to the road on a quest to unravel the truth, leaving behind the comforts of his usual moneyed lifestyle, all while fighting to stay one step ahead of an Illuminati-scale group hell-bent on stopping him.”

The power duo behind Gossip Girl and Looking For Alaska, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who also executive produce Nancy Drew, will oversee the spinoff, with Melinda Hsu Taylor and Noga Landau, showrunner and co-creator of Nancy Drew, co-creating the spinoff with Cameron Johnson.

The possible Tom Swift spinoff will have a backdoor pilot in the upcoming second season of Nancy Drew, which is currently filming in Vancouver.

'Looking For Alaska' Creators Dish on Keeping Car Accident a Mystery

The creators of Looking For AlaskaJosh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage – are opening up about keeping Alaska’s death such a mystery.

The pair recently spoke about their decision to hide so much of what actually happened.

“Part of what the story is, what John [Green]‘s book is about, is the feeling of the loss of control after someone you love has died and all you want are answers,” Josh told TV Guide. “If you could somehow change what happened, or take back some control of the situation, and you really can’t. There are some things for which there are no answers to, and what happened exactly in that accident is something that, regardless of what the answer could be, did not change anything. So that’s what informed the decision.”

“We just felt like as writers and as people telling a visual story — so much of the part of John‘s book is not knowing what happened — that we didn’t feel comfortable taking a stand on what we thought did happen and filming that,” Stephanie added. “That’s not what the story is about, and we couldn’t come to any consensus, anyways, about what we thought that was.”

Jennifer Lawrence Originally Auditioned to Play Serena on 'Gossip Girl'!

Could you picture Jennifer Lawrence as Gossip Girl‘s Serena? It actually could have happened!

The show’s creator, Josh Schwartz, just spilled in a new interview with Vulture about Jennifer‘s audition for the part of Serena van der Woodsen, which was ultimately played by Blake Lively, when she was just a teenager.

“We did not realize this at the time, but Jennifer Lawrence really wanted to play Serena and auditioned. This story came to us secondhand, but we were told she definitely auditioned and was bummed to not get it,” he said.

“We can’t remember if we saw it or not. It was ten years ago, and she would’ve been how old, 15?”

It’s safe to say Jennifer is handling the rejection just fine these days.
