Laura Marano is beginning a new era with her single “When You Wake Up!”
The 24-year-old actress and musician revealed that she wants to make her upcoming music all about others and not focus on herself as much.
“I keep referring to this as my ‘You’ era. The ‘Me’ era was last year and this is a new era that I am really focusing on not just self reflection but on the person I’m writing about, the person who’s listening to it, even my fans. It about you!” Laura explained on Build Series.
She continued, “Even with that, the original title of ‘When You Wake Up’ was ‘Wake Me Up When You Wake Up’ and I wanted to be very intentional in taking the ‘me’ out it. So ‘When You Wake Up’ was born!”
“When You Wake Up” is set to be released THIS Friday (April 10).

“I wrote it three years ago and I was actually in the middle of ending my first record deal relationship…So I found myself getting attracted to writing a song about wanting someone to change and wanting to continue something that just isn’t working and what happens with that. “100 percent, in like a second,†Laura told J-14 when asked if she’d be down to reprise her role. “It was one of the best experiences in my life. I love the cast and crew so much. Yes, yes, yes.â€
“In my head, we would be in some sort of amazing, foreign country,†Laura added. “I feel like we can’t do Italy because Lizzie McGuire already did that, but let’s go to England! Or let’s go to Hawaii — that’s not a foreign country but that’s a very beauty, tropical place. I feel like it would be visually stunning and it would be so fun to hang out with Calum [Worthy], Raini [Rodriguez] and Ross in a vacation spot.â€
