Mitchell Hope plays Ben, now King of Auradon, son of King Beast and Queen Beauty — yes, that Beauty and the Beast, in Descendants 2.
If you watched the sequel DCOM on Friday, or anytime over the weekend, you saw that big roar that Ben let out towards the end.
You’re probably wondering why the character didn’t actually morph into Beast form — we mean, his dad was a beast, and his girlfriend went all dragon. So, why not Ben?
“No one has ever asked me about that, nor was it ever raised throughout the entire process,” director Kenny Ortega revealed to TVLine about the possibility.
He adds, “But I could see where someone would think, ‘Uh-oh! That’s going to happen, too!’ We just felt that Ben needed to express that he was feeling empowered to make the decision he makes at that point.”

Descendants 2 was just declared the #2 DCOM of all time!
The brand new movie, which stars Dove Cameron, Sofia Carson, China Anne McClain, Booboo Stewart, Cameron Boyce and Mitchell Hope raked in 13 million viewers across six networks.
The sequel, which follows the teenage children of infamous Disney villains, aired on Disney Channel, ABC, Disney XD, Freeform, Lifetime and Lifetime Movies.
The sequel was broadcast across six channels, and its telecast on Disney Channel had 5.3 million.
The film also broke social media records for Disney Channel, with 174.1 million video views, 90.8 million impressions, and 14.6 million engagements, making it the biggest social campaign in the network’s history — Sweet!
If you’re wondering, High School Musical 2 (another Kenny Ortega film) sits at #1.
The Descendants 2 premiere was filled with so many of our favorite stars that we were actually starstruck!
Dove Cameron, Sofia Carson and China Anne McClain led their co-stars to the red carpet, where just about everyone who is anyone on Disney Channel was there to celebrate with them!

The guys of Descendants 2 are looking so dapper in their suits while walking the red carpet at the Disney Channel Original Movie’s premiere on Tuesday (July 11) in Hollywood.
Cameron Boyce, Booboo Stewart, Mitchell Hope, Dylan Playfair, and Jedidiah Goodacre all stepped out for the event. Thomas Doherty was sadly unable to attend!

Dove Cameron and Thomas Doherty had a chemistry so strong on the Descendants 2 set that their cast-mates couldn’t help but notice — but Thomas is definitely not the only cast member Dove is close with.
In a new interview, Dove shared that she is super close with co-star Mitchell Hope, who plays her love interest in the films.
“Mitchell is one of my favorite people on the face of the Earth,” the 21-year-old actress and singer told J14, “I mean that in a real way. You know how people say that in Hollywood? I wouldn’t say that unless I meant it. He’s a really sensitive human being and so am I. So when two people recognize a commonality, it’s like looking across the room at someone the first day of school and it’s like I see me in you and you see you in me.”
She went on to talk about how their relationship developed throughout the first and second film.
“Mitchell and I were each others’ rocks in the first film,” she continued, “Then in the second film, we were inseparable. He’s like my best friend, my brother…which is why it’s so funny that we’re significant others in the film. I think that’s why there’s so much chemistry on screen, because I tell him everything! I laugh with him maybe more than anyone else, except for maybe Thomas who’s my real-life boyfriend.”
It’s so cool to hear how close the cast-members are on the Descendants 2 set. It makes us even more excited to see the upcoming debut!

In Descendants 2, the story deepens as the Villain Kids (AKA “VKs”) – Mal (Dove Cameron), Evie (Sofia Carson), Carlos (Cameron Boyce) and Jay (Booboo Stewart) – continue to try to find their place in idyllic Auradon.
When the pressure to be royal becomes too much for Mal, she returns to her rotten roots on the Isle of the Lost where her archenemy Uma (China McClain), the daughter of Ursula, has taken her spot as self-proclaimed queen of the run-down town.
Uma, still resentful over not being selected by Ben to go to Auradon Prep with the other Villain Kids, stirs her pirate gang including Captain Hook’s son Harry (Thomas Doherty) and Gaston’s son Gil, to break the barrier between the Isle of the Lost and Auradon, and unleash all the villains imprisoned on the Isle, once and for all.
Descendants 2 premieres on Friday, July 21 @ 8PM on Disney Channel, ABC, Disney XD, Freeform, and Lifetime.
