The DC Comics series premiere it’s fourth and final season on The CW TONIGHT (February 8).
Here’s an episode synopsis: Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) is still mourning the death of his long-time friend Detective Henderson. Meanwhile, Gambi (James Remar) is presented with an interesting opportunity. Lastly, Lynn (Christine Adams) and Jefferson are still not able to see eye to eye.
This may not be the end of the Black Lightning world though, as Painkiller is potentially getting a spinoff, with a backdoor pilot airing later in the season.
Tune in to the final season premiere of Black Lightning TONIGHT (February 8) at 9/8c on The CW!
The 35-year-old actress, who plays Anissa Pierce / Thunder on the show, took to Instagram to reflect as she wraps up filming on the final, fourth season.
“I’m finishing up my 4th and final season of this beautiful ass show. Although this is our last season and there’s a part of me who is sad to see it go,” Nafessa wrote. “There’s a bigger part of me who’s just so damn grateful to have ever been a part of this journey. I’m grateful for the impact it’s had on our culture…that’s forever! I’m also really looking forward to the next chapter in my life.”
“A forever thank you to Salim and Mara Akil, Peter Roth, Mark Pedowitz, Greg Berlanti, Vicky Thomas and everyone involved with me playing Thunder!” she continued. “We coming with so much heat Season 4. Y’all make sure y’all caught up and tap in. Alright, I’m getting teary eyed so let me go! Lol. #BlackLightning #YFEAR @cw_blacklightning @y__fear Braids: @_annadoesmyhair.”
If you missed it, back in November it was revealed that Black Lightning will come to an end after it’s upcoming season. However, it may not be the end of the Black Lightning characters as a backdoor pilot will air during the final season, revolving around the character Painkiller, played by Jordan Calloway.
It was just revealed that the CW series will be over after it’s upcoming fourth season, according to Variety.
“When we first started the Black Lighting journey, I knew that Jefferson Pierce and his family of powerful Black Women would be a unique addition to the super hero genre,†series creator Salim Akil said in a statement. “The love that Blerds and all comic book fans around the globe have shown this series over the past three seasons proved what we imagined, Black People Want To See Themselves in all their complexities.â€
“Thank you to the phenomenal cast, writers and crew without whom none of this would’ve been possible,†he added. “I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve been able to do and the moments we’ve been able to create in bringing DC’s first African-American family of super heroes to life for the culture. I’m very grateful to Peter Roth, Warner Bros. TV, Mark Pedowitz, The CW Network and Greg Berlanti for their partnership and support of my vision at every step of this journey. While Season Four may be the end of one journey, I’m extremely excited to usher in a new chapter and continued collaboration with The CW as we tell the story of Painkiller.â€
If you missed it, it was recently announced that a spinoff of Black Lightning is in the works, called Painkiller, and it looks like that will be moving forward, despite Black Lightning ending.
On her Instagram, the 21-year-old actress teased that we all better watch to see Jennifer flying! We will be!
In the episode, titled “The Book of Occupation: Chapter Three”, when Lynn (Christine Adams) learns that Jefferson (Cress Williams) brokered a deal with Agent Odell (Bill Duke) without consulting her first, it begins to put a strain on their relationship.
Meanwhile, Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Grace (Chantal Thuy) have an emotional encounter.
