New TikTok App Updates & Downloads To Be Banned In the U.S. On September 20th

Looks like President Trump is still moving forward with a ban on TikTok!

The short form video app, which is owned by ByteDance, recently announced they were partnering with tech company Oracle to take over operations in the United States.

However, their deal has not been fully approved by the Commerce Department and as of THIS Sunday (September 20), users in the U.S. will not be able to download updates and new users won’t be able to download the app.

The president has set a deadline of November 12th for the deal to be approved, otherwise the app will be fully banned in the country.

“If the TikTok deal with Oracle and other parties is approved before Sunday, Trump could drop the app download ban,” Variety reports.

“We disagree with the decision from the Commerce Department, and are disappointed that it stands to block new app downloads from Sunday and ban use of the TikTok app in the U.S. from November 12,” a TikTok spokesperson said in a statement. “Our community of 100 million U.S. users love TikTok because it’s a home for entertainment, self-expression, and connection, and we’re committed to protecting their privacy and safety as we continue working to bring joy to families and meaningful careers to those who create on our platform.”
