AJ Michalka is dropping all the hints we were looking for about the possible romance between Lainey and CB on Schooled!
During her visit to Build Series in New York City on Tuesday (February 26), the actress opened up about working with Brett Dier on planting little seeds in the episodes for their two characters and the return of Barry (Troy Gentile).
“We don’t want to play it too big, too soon,” AJ explained. “In season one, you won’t see them blossom all the way as a romantic couple, but it’s getting planted.”
She added, “You will see Barry Goldberg come in and try and fight for Lainey. It’s a real sweet moment and that’s when things really unlock with [CB].”
AJ Michalka rocks her curly hair while arriving for the SCAD Schooled screening during 2019 aTVfest at SCADshow on Friday (February 8) in Atlanta, Georgia.
The 27-year-old actress was joined by her co-stars Brett Dier and Tim Meadows to discuss their new ABC series.
In a new interview, AJ opened up on taking inspiration for her character in the series from her on-set school teachers.
“It’s a thrill for me to have those people locked away in my memory banks so that I can now use them in playing a character,†she shared.
AJ added, “I am able to reference things that I wouldn’t usually be able to reference as an actor because I can look back at them.â€
Meghann Fahy, Katie Stevens and Aisha Dee gather up for a cute photo during 2019 Winter TCA Getty Images Portrait Studio at The Langham Huntington Hotel on Tuesday afternoon (February 5) in Pasadena, Calif.
The new show is set in 1990-something, and since Lainey (Michalka) still hasn’t achieved rock ‘n’ roll greatness, she returns to William Penn Academy as the new music teacher.
Lainey has a hard time adjusting to being an authority figure, but she realizes she might not be so bad at it when she discovers a kindred spirit in Principal Glascott’s niece, Felicia (Crow).
Meanwhile, Coach Mellor (Bryan Callen) struggles with Michael Jordan’s influence on modern-day basketball.
Brett Dier and Tim Meadows also star in the new show.

Amandla Stenberg and Lauren Jauregui hit the orange carpet while arriving for the Trevor Project’s TrevorLIVE LA 2018 held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday night (December 2) in Beverly Hills, Calif.
The two stars were joined by Josie Totah, AJ Michalka and her longtime friend, Raymond Braun.
Lauren kicked off the show with a stripped-down performance of her debut single, “Expectations”.
Later on at the event, Amandla accepted the Youth Innovator Award and reflected on coming out in the public eye.
“Often times who we are is postulated in the context of pain, shame, and tragedy, and although that may be a facet of our experiences I do not feel that it is by any means the totality of them or how I experience being gay,†they shared on stage. “I find that understanding so limiting and inaccurate when I know that if anything we are the opposite; we are joy and light. We are the sacred unraveling of damaging fabrications who reveal the power of truth through love. We are unapologetic expressions of divinity and exuberance.â€
The Trevor Project is the world’s largest organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) young people.
