We’re sorry…WHAT JUST HAPPENED ON THE 100?

If you watched the episode last night, you know that Lexa (Alycia Debnam-Carey) was killed, by mistake, at the hands of Titus, her second in command. This happened after his hatred for Clarke (Eliza Taylor) got the best of him and he set out to kill her, but instead a bullet went into Lexa.

“When we started the season, I had these two sort of separate big stories… I really wanted there to be a point at which the two collided,” showrunner Jason Rothenberg told EOnline after the episode had aired. “In terms of grounder mythology, back in season two, Lexa and Clarke had this conversation about reincarnation and how in the grounder world, that’s how leaders were chosen. I didn’t want to just say that was not true, but I also didn’t want to say it was a real sort of spiritual reincarnation, so I then sort of struck upon this notion of a technological reincarnation. Once I struck upon that idea, then I kind of knew that in order to deal with reincarnation, you would have to die first.”

He added, “So it became this incredibly sad thing because I love Alycia Debnam-Carey. She’s incredible, but we definitely also were factoring in the idea that we have an actor that was starring in another show. As it was, I had to sort of beg borrow and steal to get her for this season as much as we were lucky enough to get her. So in weighing all those factors, it just became clear.”

So…how will Clarke handle all of this?

“Her heart is broken, and yet she needs to balance and find a way as always to go forward as an important leader of her people. Right now, they’re locked in that room. But if you think about politically what the death of Lexa does is throws any sort of sense that Skaikru is going to be protected even if they get rid of Pike out the window, because who knows what the next commander’s going to want to do,” he explained, adding, “Is the next commander going to follow Lexa’s nonviolence path, the blood must not have blood path, or is the next commander going to do what Titus wanted all along, which is to wipe them out? And this is something that Clarke is now going to have to navigate from Polis when the story picks back up.”

Eliza Taylor takes a seat ahead of The 100 panel held during the 2016 Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour at the Langham Hotel on Sunday (January 10) in Pasadena, Calif.

The 26-year-old Australian actress was joined on stage by her co-stars Marie Avgeropoulos, Alycia Debnam Carey, Paige Turco, Lindsey Morgan, and Adina Porter.

“Lord willing, we get a season four. We have a good idea of what we want that story to be,” creator Jason Rothenberg said (via THR). “If they said, ‘This is it. Wrap it up,’ we could make this idea I have right now for the wrap-up happen at the end of season four, or five or eight.”

The 100 premieres Thursday, January 21 on The CW.

Alycia Debnam-Carey meets with some fans as she leaves the AOL studios in New York City on Tuesday afternoon (September 1).

The 22-year-old Fear of the Walking Dead actress also stopped by HuffPo Live where she opened up about the break scene between Clarke (Eliza Taylor) and Lexa on The 100.

“It feels like a lot of that show, it is that — ‘We’re in the forest and it’s raining and it’s always 3 a.m.’ [laughs] But it was a hard day, and we had a lot to cover and there were 100 extras, all with weapons, and it was raining. There were a lot of stunts we had to cover and a lot of positions and parts to that scene,” Alycia explained.

She continued, “But that moment, I think, was actually the relief of that whole day for me. It was a huge release. For me as an actor playing that character, it felt very honest, and it was open. And especially for Lexa, too. It’s the first real time you get to see — apart from the kissing — this is a scene where she makes a really strong choice, but you can see that it’s hard for her to do, and she does care. Eliza’s so brilliant and she’s so great to work with and between the two of us, we were just very connected with each other and made sure that that was the strong force of that scene.”
