Amelia Hamlin is reflecting on her struggles with anorexia in a new essay with Glamour magazine.
In the piece, the 18-year-old model confessed that if she hadn’t opened up about her eating disorder, she probably would’ve relapsed.
“I have eyes on me 24/7,†she shared. “After sharing my story, they weren’t just anonymous eyes but eyes that knew this intimate detail about my life, that were watching me and my body every single day. When you’re in recovery from an eating disorder, it’s so difficult to continue pushing through even when you have bad days where you just want to go back your old habits.”
Amelia also shared that she chose to reveal her disorder so her younger followers wouldn’t see and think of the changes in her body as normal.
“All these young girls were following me and commenting on my posts, and I realized I didn’t want them to be following a lie,†Amelia wrote. “I couldn’t allow little girls, or little boys, or whoever, to look at the changes in my body and think I’d just hit puberty — that the really skinny photos of me from the year before were just a normal prepubescent body.â€
Recently, Amelia also revealed that she felt like she could have died from her disorder.

Amelia Hamlin is getting more candid about her struggles with anorexia.
During the most recent episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, the 17-year-old model opened up about how she’s still dealing with her eating disorder.
“No matter how many deaths anorexia causes, no matter how much blindness, no matter how much hair loss, all I cared about was the skinniness,†Amelia confessed. “It’s hard.â€
She added, “I hope people in the entertainment industry can stop putting up this facade of being perfect because we all have s—. Probably we’re all way worse than everyone else…literally, every single one of my friends, and I’m sure every single one of your friends, they think about how many calories they’re consuming in a day.”
“When they sit down for a meal, they look at the bread basket and they think, ‘Holy s***.’”
Amelia went on to say that she doesn’t “want what happened to me to happen to other people…There’s so much that I need to say about anorexia because I get so many girls commenting like, ‘Help me, I can’t believe you got out of it. How did you do this?’ But I’m not out of it. I’m never going to be out of it.â€
Amelia Grey Hamlin got open and honest with her fans on social media this weekend, revealing her struggles with not only anorexia, but Hashimoto’s disease too.
“Last year at this time there was no doubt that I was not okay,” the 16-year-old model shared with a slideshow showing her body now, versus before. “Not only physically but also mentally. I feel like sometimes people forget that just because your job involves being in front of the camera, doesn’t mean you can’t have bad days. We’re human. All of us.”
She continued, “Instead of people ever commenting on my mental stability, people commented on my weight. Usually, when people are struggling with an eating disorder it stems from your mind, and your body is a reflection of it. I could go on and on about that time of my life, but the most important part about it was waking up one morning and deciding to stop sabotaging myself.”
She also opened up about her Hashimoto’s disease, a thyroid condition, diagnosis.
“I still have an extremely healthy lifestyle and I workout so hard all week to maintain my Body. Not to say that recently being diagnosed with hashimotos has also been an extreme challenge for me to balance when still getting over this part of my life, but I am getting there. One day at a time. I want to help.”
