Ellie Goulding takes the cover of Flare magazine’s Summer 2016 issue, provided exclusively to JJJ!
The 29-year-old entertainer chatted about having panic attacks, hottie Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and more. Here’s what she shared…
On having panic attacks: “[I learned to cope with panic attacks] by having cognitive behavioural therapy. I was skeptical at first because I’d never had therapy, but not being able to leave the house was so debilitating. And this was when my career was really taking off. My surroundings would trigger a panic attack, so I couldn’t go to the studio unless I was lying down in the car with a pillow over my face. I used to beat myself up about it. There were a couple of times after I released Delirium when I was doing promo and thought, Oh god, it’s coming back, it’s coming back, but it didn’t. I think my body has become quite good at controlling anxiety.”
On Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau: “OMG, your prime minister is really hot. Oh, my days. He’s handsome and a feminist. I wish there were more leaders like him in the world. Unfortunately, there are people who are the opposite of him—like people up for the presidency.”

Ellie Goulding sings a tribute to Prince while hitting the stage for a performance on Friday (April 22) in Indio, Calif.
The 29-year-old singer performed during weekend two of the 2016 Coachella Music Festival and she added a small tribute to the late singer to her set after his untimely death a few days ago.
Ellie sang a couple bars from the famous song “When Doves Cry” before segueing into her smash hit “Lights.”
“RIP Prince. There will never be anyone else like you,” Ellie tweeted after hearing of his death. “Was so honoured that he presented me with Best female Brit two years back. I was speechless in his presence. What a legend.”

On being an inspiration: “I don’t want girls to get to my age and feel like they’re not pretty enough, not thin enough, or they’re not good enough for something or someone. I’m naturally compassionate—that’s something I really like about myself. I always consider other people before myself, and I think that’s what I try to do with my music. I want to write lyrics that girls can relate to. I’m a girl; I know how hard it is… If girls are anything like me when I was a teenager, then I want them to know everything is going to be okay.”
On going out with Niall: “We’re still friends. We went on a few dates, and it was really fun. He’s a really, really lovely guy. He’s got the biggest sense of humor, he’s very caring, and I see him as a genuine friend in the industry.”
On whether she has dated Ed and if “On My Mind” is about him: “We’ve known each other for a few years. I think he’s a really nice guy and a brilliant musician. We’ve bumped into each other and we’ve hung out and stuff, but the thing is if I hang out with someone, it’s instantly like I’m ‘dating’ them. We were never in a relationship. My song is not about him.”
