Florence Pugh has booked another book-to-screen adaptation set in the 1800s!
The 25-year-old actress is set to star in The Wonder, based off of the 2016 novel by Emma Donoghue, Deadlinereveals.
Set in the Irish Midlands in 1859, The Wonder “follows an English nurse, Lib Wright (Pugh), who is summoned to a tiny village to observe what some are claiming as a medical anomaly or a miracle – a girl said to have survived without food for months. Tourists have flocked to the cabin of eleven-year-old and a journalist has come down to cover the sensation.”
Sebastián Lelio is set to direct with production beginning in August in Ireland.
This is Florence‘s second adaptation set in the 1800s in recent years. She starred in Little Women in 2019, with the plot set in 1868.

A few months ago, it was reported that Florence will be reprising her Black Widow role for an upcoming Marvel series on Disney+. Get the scoop!
“Little known fact: most male actors don’t want to play supporting roles in female-led films. The industry has raised them to believe it lessens their power (i.e financial value) to accept these roles, which is one of the reasons it’s so hard to get financing for movies focusing on female stories. No joke, it is harrrrrd to find actors who recognize why it might be worth it to allow for a woman to hold the spotlight,” she wrote.
“Enter: @harrystyles, our ‘Jack’ . Not only did he relish the opportunity to allow for the brilliant @florencepugh to hold center stage as our “Aliceâ€, but he infused every scene with a nuanced sense of humanity. He didn’t have to join our circus, but he jumped on board with humility and grace, and blew us away every day with his talent, warmth, and ability to drive backwards. 👊 #dontworrydarling,” Olivia added.
The day before, she also praised star Florence Pugh!
“To work with an actor as talented and brave as @florencepugh is any director’s dream. I will forever be grateful for you, Flo. It was an honor to be your captain. Can’t wait for the world to see the astonishing work you’ve put into this movie. Tom Cruise run + Meryl skills = THE FLO. Special thanks to no one for telling me a i had tape stuck to my butt in this moment. I LOVE YOU, DON’T WORRY DARLING ♥ï¸â™¥ï¸â™¥ï¸,” Oliviashared.
