Hilary Duff Reveals Why She Signed On To 'How I Met Your Father' So Soon After 'Younger'

'Lizzie McGuire' Is Trending, But Not Because The Reboot Is Back On...

Lizzie McGuire has made it onto the “Trending Topics” list on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon (April 21), but not for a reason you would be hoping for…

The Hilary Duff-starring reboot was scrapped at Disney+ after creative differences between the network and the star caused it to come to a halt.

Now, the show is back in conversation, but it’s not because the reboot is back on, it’s because Hilary has landed a new show, on Hulu!

The 31-year-old actress and new mom of three will be heading back to TV much sooner than anyone would have anticipated. Her current series, Younger, is in the midst of it’s final season on Paramount+, with new episodes also coming out on Hulu.

Hilary Duff Says 'Lizzie McGuire' Reboot Is Officially Cancelled

Hilary Duff just shared some really sad news for Lizzie McGuire fans.

The 33-year-old actress revealed that the reboot of her beloved Disney Channel series is officially no longer happening.

“I’ve been so honored to have the character of Lizzie in my life. She has made such a lasting impact on many, including myself. To see the fans’ loyalty and love for her, to this day, means so much to me,” she wrote on in a note on Instagram.

“I know the efforts and conversations have been everywhere trying to make a reboot work but, sadly & despite everyone’s best efforts, it isn’t going to happen,” she continued. “I want any reboot of Lizzie to be honest and authentic to who Lizzie would be today. It’s what the character deserves. We can all take a moment to mourn the amazing woman she would have been and the adventures we would have taken with her.”

“I’m very sad, but I promise everyone tried their best and the stars just didn’t align. Hey now, this is what 2020s made of,” she ended, referencing the song from The Lizzie McGuire Movie.

Back in July, Hilary shared an update on the reboot, saying they were regrouping to try to work it out. They filmed two episodes, but after creator Terri Minsky left over creative differences, the reboot just started taking a more downhill turn as Hilary, Terri and others wanted it to be a more adult Lizzie.

Hilary Duff Dishes On Possibility of 'Lizzie McGuire' & 'Hannah Montana' Crossover!

OMG! Could you imagine a Lizzie McGuire and a Hannah Montana crossover?!

Hilary Duff recently opened up about the possibilities of that actually happening.

“Oh my god, I’ve never heard that one. But you might be starting something right now,” Hilary told Cosmopolitan. “I love Miley [Cyrus], I recently was on her show that she created during the quarantine, and she’s just awesome.”

“She’s always showing me so much love and it kind of embarrasses me in a way,” she continued. “I’m like, come on, you’re like the epitome of cool and it’s really sweet that she’s just so vocal about being a fan growing up with me and I love her. And I don’t know, I’ve never thought about a Hannah Montana and Lizzie McGuire crossover, but never say never! Anything goes these days, right?”

Hilary also shared another update on the status of the Lizzie McGuire reboot.

“Yeah, you know what? I feel just as excited as everyone else. Obviously, I have felt love for that character and I feel particularly dedicated to the fans about making the exact show that it should be,” Hilary dished. “So you know, we started shooting, we stopped shooting and went back to the drawing board with Disney+, Disney, and myself to come up with something that works for all of us, and we’re still in the middle of that process.”

“Everything kind of got put on hold, especially now because of COVID. But no, we’re talking weekly and I feel really good about it. It’s a work in progress,” she said.

Hilary Duff is sharing the latest update on the status of the Lizzie McGuire reboot!

Fans are anxiously awaiting to find out what is going on with the TV series, and what service it will go to.

The star of the show recently opened up about the pandemic’s effect on the show.

“Disney has certain things that have to be met for their brand, and I totally understand that, and they totally understand my needs,” Hilary told PopSugar. “So we’re in a really good place of being like, ‘Hey, we pressed pause, and we’re regrouping.’ There’s been a lot of like creative meetings, obviously virtually. I think we’re on the right path, and I want it to happen more than anyone and they obviously feel the same way.”

“I feel like it’s our responsibility to honor the fanbase that grew up with her and where they are now,” she added about having more adult storylines.

She also shared that Disney is still “really excited” for the reboot and “dedicated to making it work.”

If you missed it, a Hulu executive recently shared that they have not had any talks with Hilary about Lizzie McGuire.

Earlier in quarantine, the cast of the original Disney Channel show got together via Zoom for a table read of one of the show’s most popular episodes.
