Jake T. Austin Pens Heartfelt Note to Selena Gomez: 'Never Been More Proud'

Selena Gomez went public about her recent kidney transplant this week, and her former Wizards of Waverly Place co-star Jake T. Austin is taking a moment to wish his friend the best.

The 22-year-old posted a slideshow to Instagram with eight photos of the pair at different ages and stages in their lives.

“You remind me daily to live my most authentic life without apologies while constantly inspiring me to be the best I can be for not only myself, but for others,” Jake wrote.

“You’re one of the strongest people I know, proving that day in and out with a smile and no complaints even at times when I know it was hard for you,” he continued. “Anyone who knows you is well aware of your resilience.”

“I’ve never been more proud to call you my friend, my family and someone I couldn’t live my life without. Someone once said, ‘friends are the family we choose’ and I’m so thankful you’re both. #getwellsoon #tbt.”

Aww. Some things never change.

Jake T. Austin Claims Fan Votes Don't Count on DWTS; Fans React

Jake T. Austin competed on season 23 of Dancing With The Stars with Jenna Johnson, but after only two performances, was voted off the show.

Now, on one of the shows’ recent Instagram posts, the actor is claiming that if fan votes really counted, he wouldn’t have been the first voted off.

“Fan votes don’t count,” he typed. “This show is about ratings. The network and producers decide who advances and who goes home. They tell fans to vote to make them feel like they are a part of something they actually have no control over.”

Once fans saw his comment, they didn’t hold back in telling Jake that he was wrong — and there were also some who stood up for him and 100% agreed.

“or maybe…. you just weren’t a good enough dancer….shocking i know,” one wrote back to him.

Another adds, “looks like someone’s salty that they got kicked off.”

“Or maybe you were just a bad dancer??? Don’t blame the show or your partner or anyone else for your lack of dance ability,” one more told him.

However, there was one fan who pointed out that he was 100% right and even brought up X-Factor example on how the shows work.

“No, Jake is right. I’m sorry you guys are so naive and actually think it’s not,” they wrote. “I went as a family member to my cousins audition for XFactor and they already knew who was going through. It was all staged.”

“They had her audition weeks earlier actually, it was rigged and we all knew it but signed contracts and release forms. They even had all of us play roles backstage and told the contestants what to say to each other for drama. They made two contestants fake flirt with each other and had all of us stand in a circle around them and react. We even faked getting our name tags and registering even though we already had just for a scene on tv. This is just another show in an entertainment business guys. You actually believed this stuff was real? Get a grip.”

They added, “Not sure why you guys are attacking him for telling your the truth. Sometimes the truth hurts! I can co-sign that reality tv is completely fake. XFactor did the same thing and also let talent go.”

TELL JJJ: What do you think? Do fan votes really count?

Jake T. Austin Talks His Favorite Role So Far, Online Bullying, & His Go-To Emoji

Jake T. Austin gives a smoldering stare during his recent shoot for Vulkan Magazine.

Here’s what the Fosters actor had to share with the mag:

You’ve been acting for more than 14 years now, what has been your favorite role, if you had to pick one? “I probably say it’s a close tie between Max on Wizards of Waverly Place or Bruce in Hotel for Dogs. Both sets were a dream to work on and I absolutely loved each cast. We really supported each other in the work that we did both on and off which made it such a safe place and I feel the best work comes from a safe place. I really think the audience could tell could tell we enjoyed making it as much as they enjoyed watching.”

You do a lot of voice acting. Do you face any particular challenges in that realm that differs from live action acting? “Yeah, absolutely. Voice acting is really challenging because you have to rely on your voice to get the character’s message across which can be ironically physical. It was pretty cool because while recording in the booth they had cameras surrounding me to make Alex, (the character I play in The Emoji Movie) as much like me as possible. The Emoji Movie has definitely been one of my favorite voiceover roles so far and that’s in no small part because of this all-star cast. They’re all so funny.”

What advice might you give someone struggling with online acceptance? “Don’t buy into the haters. If I took to heart everything I read about myself online, I wouldn’t get out of bed in the morning and that’s no way to live. Knowing yourself and loving who that is, is so important when it comes to acceptance. People are always going to try to knock you down and hold you back, but it’s about being having the determination and resilience to not let that keep you down.”

What’s your go-to emoji? “I’m a big fan of the monkey covering its eyes, personally. My go to emojis are actually really funny. I love some of the new hands ones, I’d have to say the guy with his tongue out and looks kinda crazy and also the monkey face emoji covering his eyes!”

Jake T. Austin Is Definitely Down For A 'Wizards of Waverly Place' Reunion

Wizards of Waverly Place will always be one of JJJ’s favorite Disney Channel shows ever — so we’re insanely excited to hear that Jake T. Austin would definitely be on board for a reunion.

While promoting his new flick, The Emoji Movie, Jake opened up about a possible reunion, or even a spinoff of the original series.

“Let’s do the reunion. Let’s do it for the fans,” he said to the cameras, sending a message to co-star Selena Gomez.

Last month, Selena shot down the idea of a reunion, but didn’t say no in bringing a spinoff to the channel for a chance to be a producer on it.

We hope this gets talks going again!

Jake is also pictured out at the Dunkirk premiere in New York City on Tuesday night (July 18).
