Who Is The New Batwoman? Meet Javicia Leslie as Ryan Wilder!

Who Is The New Batwoman? Meet Javicia Leslie as Ryan Wilder!

Batwoman season two premieres TONIGHT (January 17) and there’s an all new person under the mask!

In case you forgot, Ruby Rose shockingly announced that she was stepping away from the series in May 2020, then, two months later, Javicia Leslie landed the role in July.

Javicia‘s role is a whole new character named Ryan Wilder, instead of just taking over as Kate Kane. Her casting makes history as she is the FIRST Black woman to play Batwoman!

Ryan Wilder is likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed. She’s also nothing like Kate Kane, the woman who wore the Batsuit before her. With no one in her life to keep her on track, Ryan spent years as a drug-runner, dodging the GCPD and masking her pain with bad habits. Today Ryan lives in her van with her plant.

A girl who would steal milk for an alley cat and could also kill you with her bare hands, Ryan is the most dangerous type of fighter: highly skilled and wildly undisciplined. An out lesbian. Athletic. Raw. Passionate. Fallible. And very much not your stereotypical all-American hero.

Javicia recently opened up about her role in the show being much more than just her being cast.

You may most likely recognize Javicia from her role as Ali Finer in CBS’ God Friended Me. She’s also been in the BET series The Family Business, and the movie Always a Bridesmaid. Learn more about Javicia here!

Batwoman will air weekly at 8pm ET/PT on The CW!

Javicia Leslie Says 'Batwoman' Role Is So Much Bigger Than Just Her Being Cast

Javicia Leslie Says 'Batwoman' Role Is So Much Bigger Than Just Her Being Cast

Javicia Leslie is opening up about the impact of her being cast as the new Batwoman.

The 33-year-old actress is taking over the title role in the upcoming second season as the new character Ryan Wilder.

Javicia recently opened up about her being cast in the superhero role is an inspiration for others.

“Definitely, it went through my mind, a few times — a feeling like, ‘Did they make the right decision?’” she told TooFab. “I feel like everything happens for a reason and being Batwoman was bigger than me. Being Batwoman and me being in that role in general is such an inspiration for so many people and that makes it worth it. That makes every fear go away, because I know it inspires other people to make her purpose.”

She also dished on the responsibility attached to such a character as Batwoman.

“The responsibility I feel is to make sure I give everything and give my all and walk away everyday like I left everything on the table, not having any regrets at the end of the night about anything. Just knowing that I did everything. Me walking in that truth is enough,” Javicia said.

“I don’t think I have to prove anything, I think it’s just about making sure I give all of it and that way, there’s something to be proud of at the end of the day for myself,” she continued. “And if I’m proud of myself, then I think people that I represent will be proud of the work.”

Batwoman season two will premiere THIS Sunday (January 17) on The CW. Check out the episode synopsis here!

'Batwoman' Premiere Synopsis Reveals How Ryan Wilder Gets Kate Kane's Batsuit

'Batwoman' Premiere Synopsis Reveals How Ryan Wilder Gets Kate Kane's Batsuit

The second season of Batwoman is just over two weeks away!

Ahead of the premiere, the official episode synopsis has been revealed and gives insight to how Ryan Wilder (Javicia Leslie) becomes Batwoman.

In “What Happened To Kate Kane?,” Kate’s friends and family hold on to hope that Kate may still be found, a homeless 25-year-old named Ryan Wilder stumbles upon Kate’s Batsuit. Focused on no longer being a victim, Ryan takes the suit to use as armor and goes rogue in the streets of Gotham, taking out various members of a new gang called the False Face Society.

Meanwhile, both Jacob Kane (Dougray Scott) and Luke Fox (Camrus Johnson) launch searches for Kate, Mary Hamilton (Nicole Kang) grapples with losing yet another family member, Sophie Moore (Meagan Tandy) struggles with things left unsaid to her first love, and Alice (Rachel Skarsten) is furious that someone got to Kate before she could exact her revenge.

At the same time, “Bruce Wayne” (guest star Warren Christie) returns under the pretense of searching for Kate, but the truth is he wants his suit back and it becomes the clash of imposters as “Batwoman” and “Bruce” square off in the action-packed season premiere.

Batwoman's Javicia Leslie Snaps Photos With Her First Billboard In Los Angeles!

Batwoman's Javicia Leslie Snaps Photos With Her First Billboard In Los Angeles!

Javicia Leslie had a really big moment over the weekend!

The 33-year-old actress got to see her first ever billboard in person in Los Angeles.

Javicia appears in her Batwoman costume along with other CW DC heroes in a big billboard on the side of a building.

“You guys, there it is, there it is! I’m on my first billboard!” she says in a cute video clip.

“When I first moved to LA, I used to drive up Sunset Blvd and look at the billboards for inspiration,” Javicia wrote on Instagram. “I would park my car underneath one and study for my auditions, while looking at what I wanted for my future.”

“This is manifestation and hard work, one does not exist without the other! You can work your behind off, but if it’s not something you truly believe in, you’ll only go so far,” she continued. “You can dream your behind off, but if there’s no work ethic to support it, it’ll only be a dream! Malon, Dawson, and Malec… may this be the beginning of proving that dreams can come true if you work for them! #CWBatwoman”

Javicia has been reposting other people who have seen the billboard on her Instagram story, and we’re so happy she got to see it in person herself!
