CW President Mark Pedowitz Reveals What Really Happened With 'Green Arrow & The Canaries'

We are getting some answers on why the Arrow spinoff Green Arrow & The Canaries didn’t move forward at The CW.

The network’s president Mark Pedowitz opened up about what really happened with the potential series.

“Timing. We couldn’t quite figure out a model similar to Stargirl and couldn’t quite get there,” he said, via THR. “We were hoping to have it start at HBO Max and take a second run on The CW, but we couldn’t figure out how to do it and couldn’t make it all work.”

In case you forgot, Stargirl actually first premiered on the DC Comics streaming service, and would then air the next day on The CW. Since, the show was picked up for season two at The CW and the DC streaming platform eventually folded into HBO Max.

If you missed it, the show, which would have starred Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy, was officially “passed on” last week.

Katherine expressed that she was definitely bummed about the news. See what she said!

Katherine was set to star in the series as Mia Smoak, the daughter of Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak. She was also taking over as the new Green Arrow, and fighting crime alongside Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) and Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy) as The Canaries.

'Green Arrow & The Canaries' Officially a No Go at The CW

The Arrow spinoff Green Arrow and the Canaries has officially been canned at The CW.

Green Arrow and the Canaries aired as a backdoor pilot during Arrow‘s final season, starring Katherine McNamara as Mia Smoak/Green Arrow, Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance and Juliana Harkavy as Dinah Drake.

With the official news on the spinoff, this marks the end of Arrow. Katherine has previously said that she’s not done with Mia Smoak and would still put on the suit whenever, if asked.

Sofia Carson & Katherine McNamara Surprise Release New Songs - New Music Friday 12/18

Happy New Music Friday!!

This week, we have TWO end of the year surprise releases from Sofia Carson and Katherine McNamara.

Sofia debuted her new song and music video, “Hold on to Me,” while Katherine pulled another song out of her archives, “Making a Monster Out of Me.”

“I wanted to share one last song with you this year. A song that reminds us to hold onto each other with all our hearts, to hold on to hope. But most of all, I just hope it makes you smile. “When it feels like you’ve been falling, hold on to me…” I love you always, Your Sofia 🤍,” Sofia shared on Instagram.

“Surprise (again) 🎙 – another tune from the archives recorded years ago . #MakingaMonsterOutofMe,” Katherine wrote on her account. “When there are such astronomical extenuating circumstances, it can be easy to let external influences affect who we are and who we become. Even when the world isn’t upside down, one can become lost in a situation, a person, or even a time when life seems to spin out of control. In those moments, it’s important to acknowledge that and remember who you are at your core.”

“Life can take us for a ride and seem to turn us into someone we don’t recognize,” she continued. “We all have a choice to make as to the person we want to be and the influence we want to have on those around us. No matter what sort of monster you may be facing, it’s never to late to find your strength and your light and choose to do better. So enjoy the tune, get on your feet, and shake off those monsters. It’s also featured for a moment in episode 1 of #THESTAND… 💗 xKat”

We also have a new duet from Tori Kelly and JoJo, who teamed up for a rendition of Aretha Franklin‘s “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” for Global Citizen’s upcoming album, STAND UP.

Why Don’t We premiered the music video for their latest new track “Slow Down,” Julie and the Phantoms star Jeremy Shada debuted his new song “Will They Won’t They,” and Scotty Sire released a new holiday song, “25 Christmas Trees,” with Toddy Smith.

Katherine McNamara Dishes On New Limited Series 'The Stand'

Katherine McNamara‘s new limited series The Stand is premiering today!!

The 25-year-old actress stars as Julie Lawry in the CBS All Access series.

Katherine recently opened up about her character and the show, and what it was like filming a pandemic series before the pandemic started.

“What’s great about The Stand is, yes, it’s about all of this, but beyond that, it’s more about the people and more about what happens to who’s left behind and more about what you go through as a human being and forcing to choose kind of what you stand for and who you are as a person,” she told Hollywood Life.

“It’s really ultimately the choices that you make that create your destiny, and that’s kind of the core for all of the characters,” Katherine continued. “Obviously, being Stephen King, every single character is so complex and rich and has so much going on that you just put them in this sort of situation and it’s brutal, and it’s very adult, and it’s absurd, and Stephen King at its finest, and I’m so excited for people to see.”
