The 27-year-old actor was under fire recently for comments he made about his role in Divergent.
Co-star Jai Courtney chatted with Elle about what Miles said and his reaction to it.
“That’s brilliant. Listen, I can relate to what he’s saying. I also know Miles very well. He’s a very good friend of mine. He’s an interesting brand, you know? It’s like, I wanted to legitimately punch him for a couple of weeks when I first met him. He’s not there to make sure you understand his brand of comedy. It’s like you either get it or you don’t. And if you don’t, you think he’s a dick. And he’s not!” he shared.
Jai continued, “At all. But it’s a very specific tone that he kind of operates under. But getting back to what he said, I didn’t see his comments, but I understand. I think there is a strategy to all of us who have experiences taking on the small parts because of the exposure you get off something like that. I mean, money comes into play, but it isn’t like any of us are making millions yet.”

“It wasn’t so much bored as it was… that was my first experience on a film of that length – four months,” Miles told The Hollywood Reporter. “But at the end of the day, do I love going to set everyday? Yeah. With Divergent, I made a lot of good friends, but it came a month after That Awkward Moment, and That Awkward Moment was a string of four movies that I did that year. I think I was more burnt out than bored.”
Miles also opened up about how he and Shailene Woodley want to be the next Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.
“It’s funny, now we’ve both worked with Kate. She was on Insurgent, and I didn’t work with her on Divergent, but I got to know her on Insurgent. Those are two actors who are very, very good, and I thought it was cool that they did a film together with, like, 20 years in between. With Shailene, I would love to work with her once every couple years. We work very similarly, and I think she’s very talented.”

Miles recently opened up about how much training went into Whiplash.
“I started playing drums when I was 15. I played in some rock bands and stuff. I took my drums with me when I moved out to New York. And then when I moved out to L.A…. I’ve always had my drum kit on standby in case some of my friends who play guitar come over, we can jam,” Miles told MovieFone. “For the movie, I never played jazz before, so I started taking lessons for four hours a day, three days a week. I think we had about three weeks. Not a whole lot of time. I was pretty nervous about not being able to do it.”
