Maia Mitchell is giving us some huge hope for the future of Callie and Gael’s relationship on Good Trouble.
Speaking in a new interview, the 25-year-old actress revealed what the two are feeling for each other is real.
“I think they’re both kind of trying to deny the depth that they’ve gotten to in their relationship,” she shared. “Whether or not they succeed in that, we’ll see.”
Maia added, “Callie’s a hopeless romantic, and Gael is amazing, but there is the complication of a third party, Brian, so it’s complicated and messy as are relationships in your early 20s.â€
And let’s not forget about Jamie!
However, Maia is hopeful these two will win out: “I think they’re trying to deny that, but, yeah, I definitely feel a love connection.”
The 25-year-old and 23-year-old Fosters actresses attended the Youth Movement panel during the Freeform segment of the 2019 Winter TCA Press Tour on Tuesday morning (February 5) at The Langham Huntington in Pasadena, Calif.
The panel was part of the network’s “continued commitment to inclusivity and authentic storytelling.”
“At Freeform, our shows are uncompromising and bullish on what’s possible when young adults are empowered to be themselves and share their voice about the things that define them and their generation,†said president Tom Ascheim.
On the same day, it was announced that Grown-ish is being picked up for a third season.
Cierra Ramirez and Maia Mitchell give the camera a cute pose after their interview at Build Series in New York City on Tuesday afternoon (January 29).
The two Good Trouble stars, who were on Late Night with Seth Meyers the night before, opened up about how their own past experiences have made it into storylines on the Freeform series.
It’s no secret that Maia Mitchell and Cierra Ramirez are close like sisters, but their bond goes much deeper than that.
The two Good Trouble stars both recently opened up about their friendship.
“[Maia] is the yin to my yang,” Cierrasays. “If you meet us as individuals, we are the complete opposite, but we make so much sense together.”
She adds, “A lot of people come in and out of your life and I got really, really lucky to be able to continue to work with her.â€
“Cierra and I have a very similar dynamic to Callie and Mariana. She’s my best friend in real life, so she’s so easy to work with,” Maiaechos. “We know each other so well. We know what presses each other’s buttons, and we kiss and then we make up. We just forget about it two minutes later.”
She adds, “She’s like the easiest person to work with because I could never say anything that would offend her. And we hang out on the weekends. People think we’re crazy because we’ll wrap like a day of 14 hours together and we’re like ‘What are you doing tomorrow night?’ So, I’m really, really lucky that I get to keep working with her.”
Callie got quite a fright as Jude surprises her in this new clip from tonight’s Good Trouble.
As the residents of the Coterie throw an epic party, Jude stops by to help get Callie to put aside work for one evening to finally let loose and enjoy herself.
EP Joanna Johnson reveals that Jude’s appearance will also help Callie make a decision about Gael, after discovering that he also has a boyfriend.
“The question is, does she want to date Gael? And how does Mariana feel about that since she originally had a crush on him?,” she shared. “Callie will meet this other guy Gael is involved with, and, even though Gael isn’t exclusive with this guy, Callie has to decide, Do I want to date someone who’s also dating someone else? That’s something Jude helps her work through.”
Elsewhere in the ep, Mariana tries to make friends with her new co-workers since she still feels like an outsider, Alice gets some upsetting news about her ex-girlfriend, Sumi; and Malika is confronted by her foster care past.
Good Trouble airs TONIGHT, January 15th @ 8PM ET/PT on Freeform.

Good Trouble has finally premiered and we are obsessed!
While the show follows the lives of Callie (Maia Mitchell) and Mariana (Cierra Ramirez), there will be times when the rest of the Adams-Foster family shows up.
One episode in particular is when their moms, Stef (Teri Polo) and Lena (Sherri Saum), pay a visit to check out their new digs.
“The moms episode, when they come and visit us and the girls are trying to keep it together and act like adults, but as soon as their moms call their bluff, they just [break down],” Maia dished to ET.
She even added that she calls her real life mom every day for advice and filming that episode was extra emotional for her.
“Usually in rehearsal, I won’t cry and I won’t do much but I just started bawling my eyes out because it was about to be my birthday and my mom had said she couldn’t come,” she said. “So I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is too relatable!’”
Cierra added about the rest of the family visits, “We need our family and they come in at the perfect time.”
