Alex and Maia Shibutani have made a donation in support of Black Lives Matter!
The ice skating siblings joined the valiant efforts of the BTS army in raising over a million dollars, in just one day.
“#BTSARMY has raised over $1 million for Black Lives Matter causes to match @bts.bighitofficial’s donation – and they’re still going. We made a donation – please join us!” they wrote on Instagram on Sunday (June 7).
The efforts of the very passionate fandom was in response to the K-pop group’s donation of their own.
BTS and their management company Big Hit Entertainment donated $1 million to Black Lives Matter, Variety confirmed over the weekend.
“Black people all over the world are in pain at this moment from the trauma of centuries of oppression. We are moved by the generosity of BTS and allies all over the world who stand in solidarity in the fight for Black lives,†Kailee Scales, Black Lives Matter managing director, said in a statement.
Just a few days before, BTS shared a message in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
K-Pop stans also took over hashtags that were anti-Black Lives Matter last week.
Maia Shibutani has taken the next step in her recovery after having a tumor removed a couple of months ago.
The 25-year-old figure skater headed back to the gym for her first workout since her surgery in December, and shared that it actually coincidentally happened on an important day in her life.
“Two years ago today, @alexshibutani and I won our second Olympic medal in PyeongChang. I can remember everything about that day. I’ll always be so proud that rather than allowing ourselves to be overwhelmed, we had the performance of our dreams. There was an incredible amount of pressure and no room for errors, but we stayed present and had one of those magical Olympic moments,” Maia wrote on Instagram.
“Today, I went to the gym for the first time since my surgery in December. On my way there, it really hit me that I was working out for the first time in months on the anniversary of such an important and memorable day in my life,” she added.
“I was already anxious about getting started again, but it was emotionally overwhelming to contrast the elation I felt two years ago at the Olympics with the uncertainty that I felt this morning,” Maia continued.

Maia Shibutani is continuing her recovery after having surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from her kidney.
The 25-year-old Olympian took to her Instagram to open up about her recovery, which prevented her from traveling home for the holidays.
“This is the first time in 25 years that @alexshibutani and I haven’t celebrated Christmas together. I can’t travel, and he is visiting our grandma, Lily, and Po. This is also the first year since I was a baby (and couldn’t do anything anyhow) that I didn’t have gifts for my family. I couldn’t have planned for the past few weeks, but I was so disappointed this morning that I had nothing for them. I can’t go anywhere and online shopping has been far from my mind – but still! 🤦ðŸ»â€â™€ï¸,” Maia wrote.
She continued, “When I shared this feeling with them, they reminded me that love isn’t about gifts and material things. Love and appreciation isn’t just about certain days of the year. Of course, they’re right. I feel so much love for my family. They’ve supported me through this challenging time and they always provide a thoughtful and balanced perspective. Tell the people you care about today, and on any other days, that you love and appreciate them – it’s important! Wishing everyone a peaceful day. â¤ï¸”

Maia Shibutani just revealed some not so good news.
The 25-year-old Olympic medalist updated fans on the tumor she had removed over the weekend – it was malignant, meaning it was cancer.
“I got my pathology report back – the tumor that was successfully removed on Saturday was unfortunately malignant (cancer). (SDH)-deficient renal cell carcinoma,” Maia wrote on Instagram.
“This wasn’t the news I was hoping for, but I am beyond thankful that it was detected early and that my surgery went well. No further treatment is required at this time – the next steps are for me to continue focusing on recovering and healing,” she added. “All of the positive thoughts and support mean so much to me. My heart is so full. Thank you. â¤ï¸”

Just days ago, Maia Shibutani revealed to her fans that she underwent surgery to remove a tumor from her kidneys and like we expected, brother Alex was right by her side for support.
“The strongest and most courageous person I know. â¤ï¸,” Alex, 28, shared on his Instagram page with the image of him helping her walk down the hospital corridor.
Later on, Maia shared her thank yous to her family, friends and fans for their messages of support and updated them all on what’s happening now.
“Generally, things are moving in the right direction. I had to spend an extra night in the hospital following my surgery, but I was discharged yesterday afternoon,” she wrote on Instagram with the same image of her and Alex.
She adds, “Unfortunately, the pain post-surgery has been worse than I anticipated. I’ve had my fair share of injuries in skating and I’m used to muscle and bone stuff, but this is different. It was explained to me that since I am young and in good shape, my muscles and nerves are really sensitive. Walking and making even smaller body movements is currently very painful and extremely challenging.”
“It’s been tough to not feel discouraged and weak, but focusing on gratitude has really helped,” Maia writes. “My parents are with me and Alex was able to support me through those difficult first steps. I’m grateful for all of the messages of encouragement – I feel very cared for and supported. This recovery will take time and I’m still waiting on news, but I’m determined to come back stronger.”

The 25-year-old Olympic medalist shared a photo of herself in a hospital bed and detailed her journey over the past few months, from finding out about a mass, to getting the tumor removed.
“It’s been a really tough week. Back in October, I got sick and had to go to the ER while I was in New York. It ended up being a stomach virus, but they ran some tests that showed an abnormality – it was recommended that I have a follow-up appointment to take a closer look,” Maia wrote. “After an MRI earlier this week in LA, I was told that I had a small mass on one of my kidneys.
Receiving this news has been incredibly shocking and difficult to handle. I’ve been so scared, but I have had the full support of my family, doctors, and nurses.”
“I had surgery yesterday to remove the tumor. The surgery was successful and I was able to keep the rest of my kidney,” she added. “I am in recovery at the hospital and have been in a lot of pain post-surgery, but I am grateful. My doctor said there is a 60/40 chance that the tumor was malignant versus benign (we will know soon), but I am young, healthy, and feel fortunate that this was detected so early.”
“While this is deeply personal news, I don’t want rumors to spread, or for anyone to worry in case people say they saw me at the hospital. (Next time, just say “hiâ€) • I am going to try and stay positive and focus on my recovery. I appreciate all of the support and good vibes sent my way. My fingers are crossed, too. â¤ï¸,” Maia concluded.
