Not Everyone Made It To Riverdale's Graduation Episode, Showrunner Reveals

Tonight’s the night – the Riverdale gang is graduating!

The all new episode is the final one before the series jumps forward seven years. This ep was originally meant to be the season six finale.

Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who wrote the episode, revealed that not all of the characters made to the episode.

“Today’s a big day in #Riverdale. As excited/nervous as I was for my own high school graduation waaaay too many years ago. Somehow, this one means more. Not all of our characters survived to make it to graduation. Not all of the actors we wanted to come back were able to for various reasons (including Covid). But so grateful to everyone in this picture. And to many more who aren’t in the picture, but we’ll be seeing soon. Next stop: Seven years in the future…🚀🎢📸👀💥☠️,” he shared on Instagram, where he’s been sharing tidbits.

“All the secrets will come out; all the tears will flow,” Roberto shared the day before.

“The gang finally graduates, tonight. 🎓 a very sentimental, emotional episode for everyone who has been on this Riverdale journey with us since day 1,” Lili Reinhart shared on her social media.

“Everything changes tonight. @thecwriverdale,” KJ Apa added.

If you missed the good news, it was just announced that Riverdale has already been picked up for another season, along with many other CW shows!

The two co-star in the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Christmas film alongside Marisol Nichols, Sadie Coleman, and Piper Rubio.

Here’s a synopsis: When Melody’s neighbor, Nina (Nichols), learns that her illness has returned, Melody (Parrish) promises to keep Nina’s kids, Holly & Ivy (Coleman and Rubio), together. “When I got the script, I cried, I laughed. I felt all these characters. I fell in love with all of them,” Janel told ET about the movie. “I think that the relationship that she builds with Nina, and Holly and Ivy, her daughters, and the relationship that she built with Adam, they’re all such special, amazing relationships.”

“They become chosen family and I love the message that people come into your lives for a reason. And when you find your chosen family, you do anything that you can to help them,” she added. “I thought it was such a sweet message and so heartwarming. I can’t wait for everyone to see it. Marisol Nichols Says Leaving 'Riverdale' Originally Wasn't Necessarily Her Choice

Marisol Nichols Says Leaving 'Riverdale' Originally Wasn't Necessarily Her Choice

Marisol Nichols is opening up about her shocking exit from Riverdale earlier this year!

The actress, who plays Hermione Lodge on the series, revealed that it wasn’t quite her decision to leave.

“How do I put this? That’s a good question,” she told ET. “It wasn’t necessarily a choice… It’s just kind of what happens.”

Despite her announcement in February, back in June, she revealed that she would in fact be returning to Riverdale in season five as a recurring guest star!

Now, Marisol says that Hermione really sticks up for herself.

“Well, one of the things that was really important for me, if I was going to come back and wrap things up or do some more episodes, was that Hermione stick up for herself,” she shared. “It was really bothering me that she was in, for all intents and purposes, kind of in an abusive relationship.”

“She changed who she was to be with Hiram and, not that she’s innocent, but it bothered me. It bothered me just as a woman,” Marisol added. “I wanted to see her have some strength and some power and stand on her own two feet and not be stupid — for lack of a better word.”

“So that was really important to me and Roberto honored that and I’m very happy about what I’m doing so far.”

Marisol Nichols Announces She Will Be Back For 'Riverdale' Season 5

Marisol Nichols just made a big announcement!

The actress will in fact be back for Riverdale‘s upcoming fifth season.

“I had a very long talk with Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, our creator and showrunner of Riverdale, and I’m really proud to announce that Hermoine will not only be back for season five, but she will be back stronger and better than ever,” Marisol told Access.

“I’m really excited telling her story and that side of her,” she continued. “It also allows me to pursue other ventures.”

In case you forgot, Marisol announced earlier this year that she was leaving the show after the fourth season, along with Skeet Ulrich.

It was also revealed that the first part of Riverdale season five would be continuing where season four left off due to production being shut down because of the pandemic.
