Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Matthew Daddario & More Were Just As Shocked About 'Shadowhunters' Being Cancelled

Last night, we were blindsided by the news that Freeform had made the decision to cancel Shadowhunters after three seasons; and just like you, the cast wasn’t prepared for it.

Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Alberto Rosende, Matthew Daddario, Emeraude Toubia, and Isaiah Mustafa all took to social media to react to the devastating news.

“We just found out too — and believe me we are as shocked as you,” Katherine shared in a message on Twitter. “Truly, this show has been a treasure. I fell in love with this story and its mythology instantly.”

“Playing Clary has been an honor and a joy,” she adds. “She is such a special, strong lady (some might say short, redheaded and bad-tempered) — thank you for entrusting her to me and coming on this journey with us.”

'Shadowhunters' Was Just Canceled, But There's Good News Too!

We’re so sad to report that Shadowhunters has been canceled by Freeform after three seasons, but we’re so happy that the network will be giving fans a proper ending to the series.

The 10 episodes for season three have already been filmed and they cover books four and five in the Mortal Instruments series. Two more episodes will be made and they will follow the sixth and final book in the series.

“We are very proud of Shadowhunters, a series that broke new ground in the genre world and became a fan favorite,” Freeform said in a statement. “However, along with our partners at Constantin, we reached the very difficult decision not to renew the show for a fourth season. But as big supporters and fans ourselves, Freeform insisted on and championed the filming of a special two-part finale that would give devoted fans a proper ending. The twelve episodes will air in spring of 2019. We want to thank our talented creators, producers, cast and crew along with our colleagues at Constantin for their hard work and dedication and to Cassie Clare for her incredible book series. We look forward to the final chapter of this breakthrough drama.”

Shadowhunters stars Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Alberto Rosende, Matthew Daddario, Emeraude Toubia, and Isaiah Mustafa.

'Shadowhunters' Showrunners Preview How Magnus's Life Will Change & More Malec in Season 3B

When Shadowhunters returns later this summer, we’ll be seeing a much different Magnus.

Showrunners Darren Swimmer and Todd Slavkin opened up in a new interview with TVLine recently about how giving up his powers to save Jace is going to change his life forever.

“It’s heartbreaking,” Todd shared. “But it’s also beautiful, because he learns a lot. He learns how to live in the moment, something he never had to do when he had powers.”

He continues that “Season 3B is such a rollercoaster ride for Magnus Bane. We loved his arc in 3A, but for Harry Shum, Jr. as an actor, it’s a hell of a journey. It’s beautiful and profound and it’ll break your heart. You’re in for a ride that’s really intense to watch.”

Darren adds about the moments to look forward to with Magnus and Alec, “The audience really responds to those slice-of-life moments…with all that’s going on in this world, it’s hard to find those moments, or at least it’s hard to find space for those moments to breathe.”

Shadowhunters' Harry Shum Jr. Reacts to Malec Possibly Moving in Together!

Are Magnus and Alec ready to take their relationship to the next level?

In the upcoming episode of Shadowhunters, Alec (Matthew Daddario) brings up the idea, revealing that he already spends “almost every night” at Magnus’ (Harry Shum Jr.) place anyways.

“I always err on the side of caution whenever that question gets brought up [Laughs] because when you don’t know a lot of things about someone, that can always cause some confusion in the beginning part [of a relationship],” Harry told ET about his initial reaction to the idea. “Like, ‘I thought that you would like this or that,’ so I don’t know. I think it’ll be interesting to see it unfold — especially with these characters. I think Magnus, who is set in his particular ways, is very different than Alex, so I think that’s going to be the fun in seeing what happens.”

“I think they’ve gone through a lot,” Harry added. “In the real world, it’s really only been a short period of time — I think about eight weeks or something like that — that they’ve actually been together. So it’s a whirlwind of being swept up and being really into each other, yet having your world in danger as well, so you kind of get closer in that sense. So I think for the next step, since they see each other all the time and instead of going back and forth, why not be in the same place and move in? So I think the fans will really enjoy that and the progression of that.”

Shadowhunters airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Freeform.

Matthew Daddario Opens Up About The Feeling He Gets When Fans Go Nuts Over Malec

Matthew Daddario is one half of television’s most loved couples – Malec on Shadowhunters – and he knows it.

Speaking with TVGuide, the 30-year-old actor opened up about how it feels to see the fans gushing and raving over the couple.

“When I see that online and I see that in person, it’s really touching,” he shares. “It makes me feel like I’m doing something very worthwhile; something good. Something more than just TV and more than just a show, more than just entertainment.”

Matt continues, “It’s been wonderful meeting people and getting letters from people all over the world. I mean, that’s been actually the most meaningful part of this job the past few years, just seeing that… without a doubt.”

He also talked about how Malec and the show have pushed the conversation forward regarding LGBTQ representation.

“As long as we’re making some impact on improving the lives of young people, we’re going to continue to do our best effort and work as best as we can to present this in an honest and fair way.”

Shadowhunters airs Tuesdays on Freeform.

Matthew Daddario Jokes About Alec's Want To Be King on 'Shadowhunters' After Magnus' Royal Ties Are Revealed

If you watched Shadowhunters this week, you know that Alec (Matthew Daddario) learned a new piece of information about Magnus (Harry Shum, Jr.) – he’s kind of, sort of, a prince!

Alec found out about Magnus’ royal ties after Lorenzo Rey, the new High Warlock of Brooklyn suspected Magnus was working with a demon – his father Asmodeus, aka “the most powerful prince of hell.”

After the reveal, Matthew had some funny commentary about the situation.

“If Magnus’ daddy is a prince, what does that make Magnus? And how can Alec get in on this royalty thing? Alec needs to be a king. King Alec season 6,” he wrote.

Adding later, “Alec is lying that he didn’t get a little intrigued about marrying into royalty. He’s been going through those magazines at the check out aisle. I’ve seen him.”

LOL!

Shadowhunters airs Tuesdays on Freeform.
