Dove Cameron Teases 'Powerpuff Girls,' Had To Wait This Long Before Casting Announcement

Dove Cameron is teasing a little bit about the live action Powerpuff Girls pilot she’s filming.

The 25-year-old will be portraying a young adult version of Bubbles in The CW pilot, which hasn’t been picked up to series yet. Find out who else has been cast!

In a new interview, Dove shared just a little taste of what fans can expect.

“I’m so excited to be in jeans and a little blue tank top and then levitate and zoom out of a window. Please. Fighting monsters? But also specifically getting to play the Powerpuff Girls. I grew up without cable and I even knew what the Powerpuff Girls were. I’m a freak for them,” she told Nylon.

Diablo [Cody]‘s vision for it is so crazy,” Dove added. “I can’t tell you too much about it, but it is so exactly what you would want. It’s mental.”

She also added that it was torture finding out she was cast and not being able to tell anyone yet.

“After I got cast, I had to wait a week before the news came out, which was an excruciating week because I’m such a fan of the cartoon. It was so hard not to talk about it,” Dove shared.

If you missed it, Dove just released her new song “LazyBaby” and revealed that she had played the song for this person before she released it publicly.

The CW's Live Action 'Powerpuff Girls' Cast It's Leading Ladies - Find Out Who's Playing Who!

OMG! The cast was just announced for the upcoming live action Powerpuff Girls series!

Yana Perrault, Dove Cameron and Chloe Bennet have been cast to portray the characters, Deadline reveals.

The upcoming pilot will follow “the trio, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, who used to be America’s pint-sized superheroes. Now they’re disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crimefighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever?”

Yana will play “Buttercup Utonium. Buttercup was the rebellious badass of The Powerpuff Girls in its heyday. More sensitive than her tough exterior suggests, Buttercup has spent her adulthood trying to shed her Powerpuff Girl identity and live an anonymous life.”

Dove is taking on “Bubbles Utonium. Bubbles’ sweet-girl disposition won America’s hearts as a child. She still sparkles as an adult, but her charming exterior belies an unexpected toughness and wit. She’s initially more interested inrecapturing her fame than saving the world, but she just might surprise us and herself.”

Chloe will be “Blossom Utonium. Though she was a spunky, conscientious, Little-Miss-Perfect child who holds several advanced degrees, Blossom’s repressed kiddie-superhero trauma has left her feeling anxious and reclusive, and she aims to become a leader again — this time on her own terms.”

This will be the second time that Dove and Chloe have worked together. Dove had a recurring role on Chloe‘s Agents of SHIELD. You may recognize Yana from her role in the Broadway musical Jagged Little Pill or from her own music!

The CW Orders Pilot For Live Action 'Powerpuff Girls' & Puts 'The 4400' Reboot Straight to Series

The CW Orders Pilot For Live Action 'Powerpuff Girls' & Puts 'The 4400' Reboot Straight to Series

The live action The Powerpuff Girls series is one step closer to actually happening!

It was first revealed that the show was in the works back in August 2020, but now The CW has ordered a pilot for the show, according to Variety.

Based on the animated Cartoon Network series, the live action will see “the pint-sized superheroes as disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime fighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever?”

Greg Berlanti is an executive producer on the project, with Heather Regnier and Diablo Cody writing and producing.

Also getting a pilot order is Ava DuVernay‘s DC Comics project Naomi, which “follows a teen girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes.”

The 4400 reboot, which has been in the works since 2018, received a straight to series order! In the upcoming show, “4400 overlooked, undervalued, or otherwise marginalized people who vanished without a trace over the last hundred years are all returned in an instant, having not aged a day and with no memory of what happened to them.

As the government races to analyze the potential threat and contain the story, the 4400 themselves must grapple with the fact that they’ve been returned with a few upgrades, and the increasing likelihood that they were all brought back now for a specific reason.”

Lastly, a new religious series which is “about two millennial nuns – a devout true believer, and a new arrival who has yet to take her final vows – who start as strangers and become sisters on a funny, spiritual journey to understand their own faith and place in the Catholic church,” has also been given a pilot order.

In case you missed it, these current 12 CW shows just got renewed!
