Rachel Skarsten Joins 'Batwoman' Cast at CW Upfronts 2019

Rachel Skarsten turns heads in her bright red suit while arriving for the 2019 CW Network Upfront held at New York City Center on Thursday (May 16) in New York.

Joined by star Ruby Rose, as well as Dougray Scott, Camrus Johnson, Meagan Tandy, Nicole Kang and Elizabeth Anweis, the cast met up to promote their new show, Batwoman, coming to the network this fall.

“Without getting too into it, I think it’s so relevant to now,” Ruby shared about the series hitting all the right notes. “We are telling such real stories, such grounded stories. We have such a beautiful, diverse cast. We have the relationships within the cast, or characters rather—and in real life—the arcs are so true and layered and difficult and tricky in some instances and beautiful in other instances. But they’re complicated and they’re real…”

She continues, “I think that’s one of the things that is really important to see, not just like a flawless perfect superhero—which doesn’t exist anyway—but I mean the idea of that.”

“There’s a lot in there that I think viewers can watch at any age group and find people to identify with and get solace out of that or inspiration or just feel like they’re not the only person that’s like that and that’s super important.”

Batwoman will air Sundays this fall on The CW.

“But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”

Ruby actually made her debut as the caped hero in the 2018 Arrowverse crossover “Elseworlds.”

'Batwoman' Pilot With Ruby Rose Ordered by The CW!

Get ready: Batwoman is coming!

The CW gave a pilot order to the DC drama series starring Ruby Rose, Deadline revealed on Thursday (January 3).

David Nutter is set to direct the pilot.

The CW first revealed the show’s development after announcing the appearance of Batwoman in the annual Arrow-verse crossover.

Batwoman also marks the first gay lead character of a live-action superhero series.

Here’s a summary: “Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane (Rose) soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”

Melissa Benoist & Ruby Rose Discuss Supergirl & Batwoman's Friendship in 'Elseworlds'

Melissa Benoist and Ruby Rose are spilling on the relationship between their respective characters, Supergirl and Batwoman, ahead of tonight’s Arrowverse crossover “Elseworlds!”

“We shot a scene in Wayne Enterprises together, and it was just the two of us, just these two women breaking the ice with each other,” Melissa told EW. “It’s rare that I get scenes like that. I have scenes like that with Grant [Gustin] and Stephen [Amell] all the time, but I was very excited to do that with another strong female. I’ve not really gotten to have scenes like this with other female characters [like] Sara Lance [Caity Lotz] or Black Canary [Juliana Harkavy]. In the way that Barry and Kara are so light and such good friends, I think Kate and Kara have a lot more in common and can really understand each other.”

“It was nice because when Kara met Kate, it was in Kate’s space, and it was fun because there’s this power dynamic,” Ruby, who makes her debut as Batwoman in the crossover, added. “You got someone like Kara, who is just so sweet and nice, and I think [with] Kate, who is not one to trust people and doesn’t really have a lot of time for what’s happening right now, you see it’s impossible not to be charmed by Kara. You see the warmth in what I think would be a budding friendship. But it’s also really fun making Melissa/Kara uncomfortable.”

Danielle Panabaker Talks Ruby Rose Joining Arrowverse as Batwoman: 'It's Fantastic'

Danielle Panabaker is really excited about Ruby Rose joining the Arrowverse as another badass female heroine.

The actress, and future Flash director, opened up in a new interview with ET about Ruby joining the fandom as Batwoman in the upcoming crossover, Elseworlds.

“It’s fantastic [to have her here]. I think it’s an excellent addition to the universe,” she shared. “Obviously we have Supergirl, and that’s a really great step for telling female stories. I think Batwoman is another step in that direction, but it’s also gonna be different and unique.”

“She’s gonna have her own journey and her own world. I’m pretty excited about it,” Danielle added.

Danielle also talked about the feel of the crossover itself, saying that “it’s great — I feel like they did a really fantastic job writing the crossovers this year.”

“You know, rather than being about, ‘How many superheroes can we get in one room?’ they’ve told a really great story [this year]. Obviously, we’re introducing some exciting new characters, and I think fans are gonna love it.”

Elseworlds kicks off on Sunday, December 9th on The CW.
