Sia Opens Up About Once Saving Maddie Ziegler From Getting on a Plane with Harvey Weinstein
Sia is getting candid about being a mother figure to Maddie Ziegler.
The two have been working together since Maddie was 11 years old, and the singer is opening up about being protective of the dancer.
In a new interview with the Zach Sang Show, Sia revealed that she tries to keep Maddie busy doing projects with her so she can protect her.
She also dished that she once saved Maddie from getting on a plane with Harvey Weinstein.
“I mean, as soon as I met Maddie I felt this extreme desire to protect her, and I think that it was part of my own healing, and I felt this extreme compulsion to protect her,” Sia said. “The irony is that I didn’t want to be famous and I threw this child into the spotlight. She would say to me, ‘Don’t be silly, I was already famous and I wanted to be famous.’ And I would say say, ‘And you know, it can stop at any time, right? If you want it to stop, I can make it stop. You can just go back to being a normal person again.’ But she just said, ‘No, I love performing. I love dancing, and I love acting so much.’”
“So I thought, how’s a good way I can keep her safe is just keep making projects for her, and therefore most of the time we’re working together, and you know I kept her off a plane that Harvey Weinstein tried to get her on,” she continued. “I know there’s times where my insight has really made a difference, like kept her safe… Yeah, that was really disgusting… When he invited her, that’s when I called, I told [her mom] Melissa, I had to. I just said, ‘Please don’t, do not do that, do not do that, do not do that.’”
“Even recently, she was offered a part in a film and I felt that the film wasn’t good enough for her, and so I called Melissa, and was like, ‘Please don’t do this, like this isn’t good for her career. It’s not good for her long term credibility. This is not a good co-star to be in a movie with. So I just try and help guide,” Sia added. “I can be a pain in the butt. I think her manager thinks I’m a real pain in the butt, I’m sure.”
Kenzie Ziegler Releases Star-Studded Quarantine Music Video For New Song 'Exhale' Featuring Sia!
Kenzie‘s new song with Sia, “Exhale“, is out now!
The 16-year-old singer dropped the new track on Wednesday (June 24), along with a quarantine filmed music video.
Kenzie even enlisted a bunch of her friends to be in the video, including Johnny Orlando, Dove Cameron, Sage Rosen, Hayden Summerall, Emily Skinner, Dylan Conrique, Abbi Dicenso, Cameron Field, Charlize Glass, Tati McQuay, Gio Pilla, and Lucas Stadvac.
Kenzie recently opened up about how Sia got involved in the song.
“So, I actually got the song sent to me as a demo. It was just going to be me on it. I thought to myself, ‘Wow this song is so good.’ I was on tour and went to a random recording studio in Boston and I recorded the song with a random person. It was an experience so different and something I’ve never done. After that, I went back on tour, flew to where the production team was and came back on the bus. So, I never heard back from them; I didn’t hear from them at all,†Kenzie told MOOD Magazine.
“Then I finally got it back and we thought we couldn’t get the demo right, so we dropped it. But then we got it back again and I sent it back to Sia and she was like, ‘This song is so good!’ Then she said, ‘I want to be on it,’†she added. “I was surprised and she told me, ‘Well if you don’t like the song, I’ll just take the song from you’ [Laughter]. I definitely wanted to sing together with Sia so it worked out pretty well.â€
