JJJ Guest Blog: Chandler Kinney Opens Up About Helping Children in Need

Chandler Kinney, star of Fox’s Lethal Weapon, penned this guest blog for JJJ about hosting a benefit toy wrapping party at Los Angeles Ballet Academy on Sunday (December 18) in Encino, Calif.

She recently started “Chandler’s Friends,” an organization that sends blankets to children in need. Check out her blog here:

About two years ago, my mom and I were inspired to help improve our society and give back to the community. Thus, we created an organization. At the time, we were not entirely sure about our plans, but we did know that we wanted to help those in need in any way we were capable. It’s always such a nice feeling to know that someone cares for and values you, as a friend does. This idea was the inspiration for the name of my organization, Chandler’s Friends.

We started small. Making hand-made blankets and sending them to foster children was our first accomplishment. We received pictures of each child holding the blankets, radiating joy. It was beautiful and heart-warming. In that moment, I realized how big of an effect a small act of kindness can produce!

After completing several other projects under Chandler’s Friends, I wanted to take on something bigger than we ever had before for this holiday season. We got Hasbro involved, and they generously donated 300 toys! We found a wonderful charity to donate them to, School on Wheels, that does amazing work to service homeless children and families in Los Angeles.

The Chandler’s Friends + Hasbro Toy Wrap event went better than I ever could have imagined. So many of my beautiful friends came out to support and help wrap toys! The energy in the room was incredible. Everyone came to give their time, efforts, and love, not only to give to those who were in great need, but also to bring awareness of these important lives. We successfully wrapped every toy! I can’t thank everyone enough. This was a big step for Chandler’s Friends and I’m so excited to do more. I’m forever grateful that I am able to give back to others. Hopefully, this holiday, the kids and families opening these presents will know that they have a friend somewhere who cares about them.
