Lucy Hale, Justin Bieber, Vanessa Hudgens and more stars really can’t go without their daily Starbucks (us included), but we have a feeling that none of them know about the meanings behind the barista’s apron colors.
Turns out, the black and red aprons aren’t just a cool color switch — they actually mean something.
Mostly anyone can wear the green apron — it’s the basic one, according to a new post on the brand’s site.
If a partner has served in the military or graduated from the Starbucks College Achievement Plan, there are aprons with special patches and in Malaysian shops, deaf baristas wear aprons with the word “Starbucks” embroidered in sign language.
But what about that black apron? It’s reserved for “Coffee Masters”; the red apron is specifically for the holiday season; and orange aprons are worn in the Netherlands to celebrate Koningsdag, or King’s Day.
And those rare purple ones? Those are for Barista Champions.
