Emma Lahana Talks What To Expect From Brigid & Mayhem in 'Cloak & Dagger' Season Two
When Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger returns tonight, we’ll be seeing an entirely different Brigid O’Reilly.
Emma Lahana, who plays the character in the series, opened up to Collider about what to expect from Brigid and her antihero alter ego, Mayhem.
“She’s now a shooting victim, a lot of time I don’t think you think of that because she’s a highly-trained detective but at the end of day, she’s a shooting victim so now she’s dealing with PTSD,†Emma shared in the interview, and “she’s not really coping with it the best way.”
On top of using pills, she explains that Brigid is still “very shaky and jumpy which doesn’t make for a very effective cop.â€
In the first season finale, we saw in the final moments Brigid starting to turn into Mayhem.
“She’s got this duality as well and this dark side that she can’t really ignore anymore that’s maybe taking over certain aspects of her life,” Emma adds.
Mayhem isn’t technically a villain, and in the comics, she works with Cloak and Dagger in the comics to bring criminals to justice. However, her ethics code isn’t superhero-y at all.
“There’s definitely a focus on her fingernails,†Emma teased. “Sometimes we do things that are in comics. Sometimes we don’t. Sometimes we do. You will see things in the show that you’ve read in the comics.â€
Showrunner Joe Pokaski also commented that with Mayhem, they want to “surprise the crap out of you.”
“What we try to do is make sure we’re leaning into the strengths of the story we’re telling, we’re leaning into the strengths of the actors we have,†he shared. “I cannot speak highly enough about what Emma Lahana can do. All I can say is that we’ve got high hopes for Mayhem and we keep setting these crazy bars and she keeps leaping over them.”
