Here's Why Mena Massoud Isn't Shirtless In 'Aladdin' Like The Animated Film

Naomi Scott and Mena Massoud hug it out inside the official after party for the premiere of Aladdin, held at Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood on Tuesday night (May 21).

The two stars of the film joined co-stars Will Smith, Marwan Kenzari, Numan Acar, Navid Negahban, with composer Alan Menken, choreographer Jamal Sims, and director Guy Ritchie inside the party.

In a recent interview with EW, costume designer Michael Wilkinson explained why Mena is not shirtless like his cartoon counterpart in the new movie.

“For the same reason why we thought it wasn’t appropriate for Princess Jasmine to be flashing her belly button for half of the film, we also felt that once you make that leap from cartoon into live-action, you really have to make some adjustments.”

He added, “We thought having so much skin showing on Aladdin for the whole film would be quite distracting on a human actor as opposed to a cartoon character.”
