Brenda Song Says She Wasn't Ready For 'Something Dark & Crazy' Yet After Her 'Suite Life' Days

Brenda Song stuns in a chic pink pantsuit during an appearance on The IMDb Show last week in Studio City, Calif.

The 32-year-old actress stopped by to promote her new Netflix movie, Secret Obsession, and while there, got candid about making a transition from Disney to more mature roles.

“I, obviously, wouldn’t be here without that show,” Brenda said about starring on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. “At the time, Disney Channel was giving me my own TV movies, which was – you know, at 17, 18 it made me really exciting that kids could watch and say like, ‘oh, look at this Asian-American actress on TV,’ like that’s so inspiring and they were doing that, you know, ten, 15 years ago, which is incredible.”

She adds, “At the same time, when you want to make that transition, it’s really hard to allow people to believe that you can be other people, especially when they’ve known you so long as one person.”

“I think that was the thing coming out of Disney was everyone was like, ‘well, you have to do something dark and something crazy to show people you can act and do something different,’ and I, personally, wasn’t ready for that. I had never gone to a house party before – things like that.”

Secret Obsession is streaming now on Netflix, and Brenda‘s new series, Amphibia, is airing now on Disney Channel, too.

Brenda Song Opens Up About Possible 'Suite Life' Reboot

There are a ton of Disney Channel shows that we’d love to see rebooted, and so would Brenda Song.

The 32-year-old actress, who is making her official return to Disney Channel later this summer in Amphibia, chatted with ET about the possibility of her own two shows, Suite Life of Zack & Cody and The Suite Life on Deck, getting the reboot treatment.

“I was a part of Suite Life, so I can’t say anything,” she shared. However, she knows exactly which show she personally would love to see get a reboot: Lizzie McGuire!

“That’s my favorite show,” Brenda says. “That would make my life because that’s the show I grew up watching.”

Brenda also dished about returning to the channel, saying that “it really does feel good to be back. Especially unveiling such an amazing show that’s so close to my heart. It feels really special.”

“It’s so fun to a play a 13-year-old. It’s literally my voice. I told them, ‘I’m a one-trick pony, this is all you get’ and for some reason they were OK with that. So it’s great. I get to go to work in my pajamas and have a good time.”
