'Minions: The Rise of Gru' Release Gets Pushed Back Again, Moves to 2022

'Minions: The Rise of Gru' Release Gets Pushed Back Again, Moves to 2022

The upcoming Minions prequel movie has been given another new release date!

This is the second time that Minions: The Rise of Gru has been pushed back, and will now premiere in 2022, according to Variety.

Back in March 2020, amid the Coronavirus, the studio working on the film in France had shut down and caused the film’s initial July 2020 release to be moved. The movie was then announced to premiere on July 2, 2021, one year after the original date.

Now, among other Universal release dates being moved around, the Minions film has been pushed back by another year and will premiere on July 1, 2022.

Minions: The Rise of Gru will tell the untold story of one 12-year-old’s dream to become the world’s greatest supervillain.

We may have to wait another year to watch the film, but in the meantime, fans can still watch the trailer to tie them over!

New Minion Otto celebrates the trade of a special stone for a pet rock in the brand new trailer for Minions: The Rise of Gru.

Out in theaters this summer, the animated action movie centers on a young Gru (Steve Carell), who is just the biggest fan of supervillain supergroup, the Vicious 6, and he has a plan to become evil enough to join them.

Luckily, he gets some mayhem-making backup from his loyal followers, the Minions. Together, Kevin, Stuart, Bob, and Otto—a new Minion sporting braces and a desperate need to please—deploy their skills as they and Gru build their first lair, experiment with their first weapons and pull off their first missions.

When the Vicious 6 oust their leader, legendary fighter Wild Knuckles, Gru interviews to become their newest member. It doesn’t go well (to say the least), and only gets worse after Gru outsmarts them and suddenly finds himself the mortal enemy of the apex of evil.

On the run, Gru will turn to an unlikely source for guidance, Wild Knuckles himself, and discover that even bad guys need a little help from their friends.

Taraji P. Henson, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Lucy Lawless, Dolph Lundgren and Danny Trejo will voice the Vicious 6.
