Lea Michele Talks About Ryan Murphy's Support After Cory Monteith's Death

Lea Michele Talks About Ryan Murphy's Support After Cory Monteith's Death

Lea Michele is opening up about the support she received from Glee and Scream Queens creator Ryan Murphy after the death of her boyfriend Cory Monteith three years ago.

“When I found out [Cory had died], Ryan was one of the first people I called. When Cory was alive, Ryan was very helpful in trying to get him well and healthy but, when that day did come, Ryan did take charge, and he helped me more than I can ever explain,” the 30-year-old actress told Entertainment Weekly.

“He completely cared for me. He made sure I was okay every single day, whether it was coming over to his house and having dinner prepared for me, or making sure I was okay at work,” Lea continued. “He sat me down and said, ‘What do you want to do? Do you want to continue the show? Do you want it to end?’ I just said, ‘I just want to go back to work.’ His heart is bigger than I think he knows what to do with sometimes.”

Naya Rivera Says Lea Michele 'Didn't Say a Word' to Her During 'Glee' Season Six

Naya Rivera Says Lea Michele 'Didn't Say a Word' to Her During 'Glee' Season Six

Naya Rivera is getting candid about her time on Glee.

The 29-year-old actress opened up about her experiences with co-star Lea Michele in her new book Sorry, Not Sorry: Dreams, Mistakes & Growing Up.

“One of the Glee writers once said that Lea and I were like two sides of the same battery and that about sums us up,” Naya wrote. “We are both strong willed and competitive – not just with each other but with everyone – and that’s not a good mixture.”

Naya continued, “As the show progressed, though, that friendship started to break down, especially as Santana moved from a background character to one with bigger plot lines and more screen time. I think Rachel – erm, I mean Lea – didn’t like sharing the spotlight. On top of that, she had a hard time separating work from our outside friendship, whereas it was a lot easier for me. I’m not offended when people offer feedback or criticism, and if things get heated on set, I try to keep perspective. We’re all stressed, yes, but we’re all working toward the same goal, so laugh it off and keep it movin’. Lea was a lot more sensitive, though, and it seemed like she blamed me for anything and everything that went wrong.”

“If I’d complained about anyone or anything, she’d assumed I was b-tching about her,” Naya wrote. “Soon, she started to ignore me, and eventually it got to the point where she didn’t say a word to me for all of season six. Lea and I definitely weren’t the best of friends, and I doubt we’ll ever sit on her couch and eat kale together again, but the rumors of our ‘feud’ were blown out of proportion.”

As for Lea‘s relationship with Cory Monteith, Naya wrote, “When Cory and Lea started dating, it was a total surprise. The more serious they got, the less Cory hung out with us and the more he seemed like a different person. One year he came back from the break between seasons super skinny. He said he’d been spending a lot of time at the gym and was trying to be responsible – not spending money all the time and buying crazy cars like he used to. My personal feelings for Lea aside, I knew that she wasn’t a partier, so I felt like maybe their relationship could actually be good for him. I was happy for Cory to have a stable influence in his life, wherever it was he found it.”

'Glee' Creator Ryan Murphy on Cory Monteith: 'I Think About Him Every Day'

Cory Monteith is being remembered by Glee creator Ryan Murphy on what would have been in 33rd birthday (May 11).

“It’s always hard when I speak about Cory because I miss Cory,” Ryan told People. “It’s a very sort of sad feeling when I think about him. I miss him. I loved him. I think about him every day.”

He added, “I think that he was taken too soon, [that's] one of the great tragedies to me. I do think that he influenced and helped so many people, and I have to hold on to that. It’s too overwhelmingly sad.”

In case you missed it, see how Cory‘s girlfriend at the time, Lea Michele, memorialized him via social media.

Cory tragically died back in July 2013 after consuming a toxic mix of heroin and alcohol.

Kevin McHale Gets Candid About the 'Glee' Cancellation

Kevin McHale Gets Candid About the 'Glee' Cancellation

Kevin McHale is opening up in a candid new interview on why he thinks Glee lost its viewers and why there shouldn’t be a spinoff series.

“I will say, not to bring it down or anything, when Cory Monteith died. I don’t think the show ever came back from that,” the 26-year-old actor told The Huffington Post. “It wasn’t for a lack of trying, but the story was going in one direction with his character [Finn Hudson] and he was one of two main characters of the show.”

“I think after that the vibe on set was different,” he added. “It was just weird for us being there never mind actually having to be filming. Being one of the writers in that sort of situation — I wouldn’t have known what I would have done because I was like, ‘I don’t really even want to be here.’”

When asked if he thinks Artie should get a spinoff, Kevin said, “Towards the end, there weren’t that many people watching Glee. So I don’t know how many people would then watch a spinoff. We’re off the air for a reason.”
