Joshua Bassett is dishing on his single “Lie Lie Lie,” and all the drama speculation surrounding it.

The 20-year-old singer and actor breaks down the lyrics in the song, and addresses the online talk of it being about Olivia Rodrigo, in a new video with Genius.

“I thought it was funny, people sort of jumping to conclusions on who they think the song is about. And, you know, them thinking that I sort of wrote and released it within a week,” Joshua said. “It’s kind of ridiculous. I mean, there’s literally proof on my Instagram that I wrote it two and a half years ago. And nobody will ever know who the song is about.”

“But it is funny to sort of see the speculation on who people think it’s about,” he continued. “I’ve done my best to sort of make it clear that it’s not about anyone in particular that they might think it is. But you know, people are gonna think what they’re gonna think.”

He also revealed that the song flowed right out of him while he was in his kitchen in just his underwear.

“I was standing in my kitchen, in my underwear with my guitar just like, messing around,” Joshua said. “And I remember the situation and I got, I remember just getting so angry, and it’s almost like I blacked out, and I just started singing. Most of the song just kind of spilled out from there.”

Sabrina Carpenter is talking all things music!

The 21-year-old “Skin” singer just addressed all the drama surrounding her song, Olivia Rodrigo‘s track and Joshua Bassett.

“That was probably why it was one of the things I’ve been most nervous to put out, but that was also something exciting about it,” Sabrina told Radio.com. “There’s only so many times in life when we really get to write about what’s affecting us in the moment… I think in this situation, a lot of people have probably felt that way.”

“It’s such a struggle not to be able to control the narrative and know that whether you say something or whether you don’t say something, people are gonna be mad at you either way. People are probably not going to be pleased with whatever you say or don’t say,” she added. “It’s really just one of those things where you have to kind of to do for yourself at the end of the day and do it in the hopes that someone can find inspiration in the message.”

“At the end of the day, the more I dance around the subject, the less people kind of understand where I’m coming from. Not that the goal is to get them to understand, ‘cause I don’t think at the end of the day you’re ever going to accomplish that,” Sabrina added about the drama. “But the more honest I could be in that moment, and that fact is, exactly what I said, it wasn’t a call out to one person.”

“That situation is a situation, and plenty of other things have happened in this past year alone in my life that I was like, ‘it’s getting to be a lot,’ and I need to compile these thoughts into one place, and into one message that I can kind of come full circle with and constantly remind myself that people can only get to you if you allow them to,” she continued.

Sabrina also shared a little tease about her upcoming collaboration with Joshua, which will be on his upcoming EP.

“I can’t say too much, and it’s on his project, so I don’t want to say too much that I can’t say. It’s a collaboration very dear to my heart that I’m excited about, and we did it a while ago now,” she shared.

Joshua Bassett just dropped his brand new song “Only a Matter of Time“!

The 20-year-old not only released the song from his debut EP, but the music video as well, which just features a close up of him singing the song on a railroad track.

“It’s only a matter of time / an eye for an eye / you’ll go blind / and when did you stop being kind? / you twisted your words like a knife,” Joshua sings in the song. “I’m sure that you’re hurting inside / Why would you make your pain mine? / Making me pay me for your crimes.”

He first announced the release the day before, and included a pre-release note for fans.

“hiiii i wrote this song half a year ago, and this release has been scheduled for months!” he wrote. “very proud of this one and can’t wait for you all to hear!!! :)”

His HSMTMTS co-star Matt Cornett also commented, “Can’t wait for this one. One of my favorites. 👏🏼”

“I wrote this song in the summer of 2020 in a moment in time where social media was bringing a lot of darkness to my life,” Joshua added in a press release about the track. “It was healing to put my phone down, turn off the noise and just write. There’s good that comes from social media, but it’s also become a place where people can say anything about anyone, no matter how false or damaging with no accountability. We’ve gotta be much kinder to each other and recognize there are real people behind the screens!”

Joshua Bassett and rumored girlfriend Sabrina Carpenter are releasing a duet!

The 20-year-old singer and HSMTMTS actor and the 21-year-old singer and actress will release their new track “We Both Know” on his self titled debut EP.

The news was revealed when the complete track list for his EP was unveiled. The project will be out on March 12th!

Joshua also just lent his support to Sabrina‘s brand new song “Skin.”

“been stuck in my head since i heard it!!!” he wrote on his Instagram story. “congratulations @sabrinacarpenter on ‘skin’, the new label, & all that’s to come!!!”

Many fans believe the track is about her co-star Joshua Bassett and Sabrina Carpenter, who are rumored to be dating.

In a new interview with Billboard, the 17-year-old singer reacted to the rumors and the fan theories.

“I totally understand people’s curiosity with the specifics of who the song’s about and what it’s about, but to me, that’s really the least important part of the song,” she said. “It’s resonating with people because of how emotional it is, and I think everything else is not important.”

“To see it do really well — to have this really painful moment in my life, and turn it into something beautiful that can maybe help people through a tough time that they’re having, like I was having a tough time — it’s just so empowering,” Olivia added. “I feel grateful that I got to do that.”

Joshua Bassett grabs some popcorn on one of two covers for the new collectors issue of A Book Of magazine!

The 20-year-old “Lie Lie Lie” singer opened up to the mag about his music, his inspirations, valuable life lessons, and creating magic by letting go.

Joshua revealed in his interview that he was on the verge of quitting before getting the call that he got the role of Ricky in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

“Often times, the best things in life happen just after the curve – just when they get the hardest then they end up being the most wonderful.,” he said.

He also shared some advice for aspiring artists and what trait is key…

“You’ll be successful if you are you, and for what you bring,” Joshua said. “When you are honest, everyone feels the emotions and if you’re able to get that and capture that, that essence of whatever that is, and put that into your song, it resonates with people – almost all the time, no matter what.”

The 20-year-old entertainer released his song “Lie Lie Lie” on Thursday (January 14) and just hours later, he updated fans that he was in the hospital because he was experiencing the “worst pain” of his life.

Joshua said the pain has been going on for days and it became too intense so he knew he had to go to the ER.

“welp… not the first place i assumed i’d be on my Lie Lie Lie release day… the ER!! (before you ask, no it’s not covid.),” Joshua wrote on Instagram.

He continued, “after an unknown, uncomfortable feeling turned into, times 10, the worst pain of my life, i figured i’d just try to sleep. after multiple, very very ugly days and nights, i had no choice today but be taken to the hospital.”

“i’d like to say thank you!!!! for all the support on the song!!! i’ve been doing what i can today to stay involved. had my first surgery tonight! gonna rest at the hospital and the doctors will see what they see in the morn!” Joshua said.

He added, “p.s.the doctors here are the sweetest, most professional people in the 🌎. they’ve made me feel very safe!).”

Joshua concluded the post by saying, “p.P.s. according to the doc, i now have the medal for ‘the sickest patient in the hospital.’ how cool!!!”
