The new Tracy Turnblad, newcomer Maddie Baillio, poses for a photo with Derek Hough and Kristin Chenoweth at the press day for NBCUniversal during the 2016 Summer TCA Tour held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Tuesday (August 2) in Beverly Hills, Calif.
The three actors were joined at the event by their Hairspray Live co-stars Jennifer Hudson and Harvey Fierstein to chat about the upcoming live production. The cast kicked off rehearsals this week!
During the panel, it was revealed that two original songs written for the musical movie version of Hairspray will be added into the production. Also, unlike previous NBC productions, the action will move outside of the soundstage when the scene calls for the characters to go outdoors.
It was also revealed that Sean Hayes will play Mr. Pinky and Rosie O’Donnell will be playing the gym teacher.

Maddie is currently a sophomore at Marymount Manhattan College in New York City, and originally hails from Texas. The casting call brought out 1,000 hopefuls, and Maddie won the role!
