Maddie Ziegler Stars As Teen On Autism Spectrum In New 'Music' Film Teaser Clip

Maddie Ziegler is starring in this brand new teaser video from her upcoming film Music!

The 18-year-old stars as the titular character in the movie, alongside Kate Hudson and Leslie Odom Jr.

Here’s a synopsis: Kate Hudson, plays Zu, a newly sober drug dealer and self-saboteur who finds herself the sole guardian of her half-sister, Music (Ziegler), a teenager with special needs. Barely able to take care of herself, let alone her sister, Zu struggles with this new responsibility, but soon learns that life’s obstacles are made easier with a little help from a friend, Ebo (Odom, Jr.), a neighbor whose own family story makes him someone Zu can learn from and rely upon. The film explores the tenuous bonds that hold us together and imagines a world where those bonds can be strengthened in times of great challenge.

Music is the feature film directorial debut from Sia, who also co-wrote the movie with Dallas Clayton. In addition, Sia wrote ten original songs for the movie, that are performed by the cast.

The film will get a special limited theatrical release by IMAX in February 2021!

Maddie Ziegler Apologizes For Past Insensitive Videos: 'I'm Honestly Ashamed'

Maddie Ziegler is issuing a formal apology after past videos resurfaced.

The 17-year-old entertainer shared a statement on social media regarding the videos from when she was nine years old.

“There are a few videos some of you have seen from when I was about 9 years old where I thought it was funny to mock people and accents,” she started her note. “I’m honestly ashamed and I’m truly sorry for my actions. The decisions I made then are absolutely not decisions I would make today. What I thought was silly humor when I was younger I know was actually ignorant and racially insensitive. We have all made mistakes in our lives and as we grow up we educate ourselves and learn to be better people.”

“Growing up in the public eye has its challenges and also comes with the responsibility to set a good example which I failed to do in these videos,” Maddie continued. “I hope you will forgive me and also hope you realize I have in fact grown up and would never act this way now.”

“I know some of you are hurt and may not accept my apology but I want to ask all of you to please be kind to each other on socials,” she added. “There is no need to attack each other or try to defend me. I don’t want anyone to feel bullied and think we can all learn from my mistakes and spread love during these times when we need it most.”

Maddie‘s younger sister Kenzie also recently apologized. See clips of her Instagram live here.

Sia Opens Up About Once Saving Maddie Ziegler From Getting on a Plane with Harvey Weinstein

Sia is getting candid about being a mother figure to Maddie Ziegler.

The two have been working together since Maddie was 11 years old, and the singer is opening up about being protective of the dancer.

In a new interview with the Zach Sang Show, Sia revealed that she tries to keep Maddie busy doing projects with her so she can protect her.

She also dished that she once saved Maddie from getting on a plane with Harvey Weinstein.

“I mean, as soon as I met Maddie I felt this extreme desire to protect her, and I think that it was part of my own healing, and I felt this extreme compulsion to protect her,” Sia said. “The irony is that I didn’t want to be famous and I threw this child into the spotlight. She would say to me, ‘Don’t be silly, I was already famous and I wanted to be famous.’ And I would say say, ‘And you know, it can stop at any time, right? If you want it to stop, I can make it stop. You can just go back to being a normal person again.’ But she just said, ‘No, I love performing. I love dancing, and I love acting so much.’”

“So I thought, how’s a good way I can keep her safe is just keep making projects for her, and therefore most of the time we’re working together, and you know I kept her off a plane that Harvey Weinstein tried to get her on,” she continued. “I know there’s times where my insight has really made a difference, like kept her safe… Yeah, that was really disgusting… When he invited her, that’s when I called, I told [her mom] Melissa, I had to. I just said, ‘Please don’t, do not do that, do not do that, do not do that.’”

“Even recently, she was offered a part in a film and I felt that the film wasn’t good enough for her, and so I called Melissa, and was like, ‘Please don’t do this, like this isn’t good for her career. It’s not good for her long term credibility. This is not a good co-star to be in a movie with. So I just try and help guide,” Sia added. “I can be a pain in the butt. I think her manager thinks I’m a real pain in the butt, I’m sure.”
