Yara Shahidi, Ever Anderson & More Begin Production On 'Peter Pan & Wendy'

Production has begun on the upcoming live action Peter Pan & Wendy film!

Disney+ announced that Yara Shahidi (Tinkerbell), Ever Anderson (Wendy), Alexander Molony (Peter Pan), Jude Law (Captain Hook) and Jim Gaffigan (Smee) have begun principal photography in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The upcoming movie is based on J.M. Barrie‘s novel “Peter And Wendy” and inspired by the original 1953 animated Disney movie.

Peter Pan & Wendy is the timeless tale of a young girl who, defying her parents’ wishes to attend boarding school, travels with her two younger brothers to the magical Neverland. There, she meets a boy who refuses to grow up, a tiny fairy and an evil pirate captain, and they soon find themselves on a thrilling and dangerous adventure far, far away from their family and the comforts of home.

“Peter Pan has long been one of my favorite stories, partially because I’ve always resisted growing up, but also because of the heart, adventure and imagination that makes J.M. Barrie’s original tale so evergreen,” director David Lowery said. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to redefine his iconic characters for a new generation – and even more excited that I get to do so with such an exceptional cast and crew.”

Peter Pan & Wendy will premiere on Disney+ in 2022 and also stars Molly Parker as Mrs. Darling, Alan Tudyk as Mr. Darling, newcomers Joshua Pickering as John, Jacobi Jupe as Michael and Alyssa Wapanatâhk as Tiger Lily.

Yara Shahidi Cast As Tinker Bell In Live Action 'Peter Pan' Movie!

Yara Shahidi will be getting some wings!

The 20-year-old grown-ish star has reportedly been cast as Tinker Bell in the upcoming live action Peter Pan & Wendy, according to Deadline.

Yara joins the ever growing cast of the new Peter Pan film. Also cast in the movie include Jude Law as Captain Hook, Alexander Molony as Peter Pan and Ever Anderson as Wendy.

Yara‘s casting in the film is pretty notable as Tinkerbell has traditionally been a white character. She joins her grown-ish co-star Halle Bailey in being cast in roles that have previously only been played by white actors.

Halle will of course be playing Ariel in the upcoming live action The Little Mermaid.

Just last month, it was announced that Yara had signed an overall deal with ABC, and formed a production company alongside her mom under that deal.

The Peter Pan to her Wendy will be Alexander Molony!

Alexander could most recently be seen in the show The Reluctant Landlord, and as the voice of Claude in the animated Disney Junior series of the same name.

Disney To Adapt 'Peter Pan' Into Live Action Movie

Peter Pan is getting the live action treatment!

According to THR, Disney has recruited Pete’s Dragon director David Lowery to direct the adaption of the classic story by J.M. Barrie.

The original animated film came out in 1953 and centers on a mischievous young boy who can fly and never grows up, and spends his never-ending childhood having adventures on the island of Neverland as the leader of the Lost Boys, interacting with fairies, pirates, mermaids, Natives, and occasionally ordinary children from the world outside Neverland.
