The two singers had the chance to talk with their Girl Crushes — Cher and Salt-N-Pepa — about fashion, taking risks and balancing everything.
“Just looking at all the things you’ve done on red carpets – my stylist and I kind of stalk you a little bit – you were creating these moments, and you were breaking down barriers so that pop stars and even people like me could go out on a red carpet [and do something more dramatic], and people understand it and get the individuality of it,” Zendaya, 19, told Cher, 69.
Cher replied, “You want to be accepted, but you don’t want to play it so safe that you don’t take chances and you don’t express yourself. It’s not bullshit to express yourself in the way you want to, and it helps girls to not be afraid to express themselves. I think you’re a really good role model. Wardrobe is a simple thing, but you have to be free to express yourself. You can’t be constricted.”
“I go out there and I wear what I want to wear, with nobody in mind but how I feel when I leave the house,” Zendaya added.

Rachel Platten looks like she just won the lottery after her performance at G-A-Y Nightclub in London, England on Saturday night (January 16).
The 34-year-old “Fight Song” singer wore a sheer dress for her concert, after opening up with Fuse about how she tackles mean comments and tough reviews about her album head on.
“I was in a dance rehearsal yesterday, and I had just read a review of the album that wasn’t very flattering. It hurt so much, and it wasn’t even that mean—I was just being sensitive. And my dance instructor said, ‘Good. Use that when you’re rehearsing the song. Find that energy that made you write the song, that you had to fight for yourself because other people didn’t believe in you,’” she shared.
Rachel added, “It’s harder to feel that energy because a lot of people do believe in me now. It was just a good reminder that it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. I believe in myself, and I want to spread this message of love and empowerment, and you can accept that or not.”

The “Fight Song” singer recently opened up about releasing the critically-acclaimed lead single.
“I hadn’t released anything in years, and my ego was kind of shot,” Rachel told Glamour. “I was embarrassed to be like, ‘Hey, I’m gonna put myself out there again and try.’ That was kind of scary because I didn’t have much confidence in my career at that point.”
Rachel continued, “But within moments of releasing it, there was like a flood of comments that were very, very personal and reactive and people saying, ‘This song made me cry. I just shared this with my friend who needs this song.’ And that reached me pretty quickly, like, OK, this might be as special as I had hoped.”

The 34-year-old “Fight Song” singer performed her hit song, plus new single, “Stand By You”, along with Andy Grammer, who performed later in the night.
“2015 has been such a life-changing year and I feel so incredibly blessed to have met all you guys!!” Rachel wrote on Twitter before dropping her new album, Wildfire.
Later on Instagram, Rachel reacted to having the #2 album up on iTunes: “WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH. What a way to end the most magical year of my life. I love you all so much and I’m so grateful. YOU did this. And yes I bought my own album.”
