Janel Parrish & Sasha Pieterse Bring 'The Perfectionists' to 'GMA'

Janel Parrish shines in a teal jumpsuit while leaving ABC Studios in New York City on Wednesday (March 20).

The 30-year-old actress joined co-star Sasha Pieterse as they promoted their brand new series, The Perfectionists, ahead of the television premiere tonight.

“It’s more evolved,” Janel says about the series. “It’s darker, it’s sexier, it’s more fun, it’s more mysterious. You’ll meet some new faces that I think people are going to fall in love with.”

She adds that “if you were a PLL fan, it’s definitely everything that you would want from PLL, with a couple more things added on top.”

But if you didn’t watch the original Pretty Little Liars series, that’s okay too: “If you weren’t a PLL fan I think it doesn’t take long to kind of pull you into this world.”

FYI: Sasha wore an Oscar de la Renta dress.

Ali & Mona Are Trying To Be Friends In 'The Perfectionists'

Ali & Mona Are Trying To Be Friends In 'The Perfectionists'

When The Perfectionists premieres tomorrow, you’ll see something we’ve never ever seen before – Ali and Mona being friends!

Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish chatted with Bustle about their characters’ new roles on the series and that includes trying to be friends with each other.

“Mona and Alison are just trying to live their best Beacon Heights life, they can finally be friends and then — bam! A death,” Sasha joked, before expanding on Ali’s new life.

“Alison sees the Perfectionists as sort of her foster puppies. I think Mona is at first like, ‘OK, Alison, you go play with your little puppies’ and as the mystery unfolds and the stakes get higher, Alison comes to Mona for help, naturally,” she adds.

Janel adds, “I think Mona, who has always been a little bit of a loner but yearned to be part of a group, sees an opportunity for her to open up a little bit more to people. It’s going to be a struggle for her because you know, she’s Mona, and she’s used to being a lone wolf. But it’s interesting to see her figure out how to approach having personal relationships with people.”

While Mona and Ali have a complicated relationship, Sasha and Janel are super close off screen.

“Janel and I get along so well off-camera, she’s a very close friend of mine,” Sasha says. “So it’s fun for us to have these kinds of scenes together where we’re not yelling at each other or in our old type of dynamic.

“That’s a brand new development that shocks Alison, and she’s not sure how to take it and she’s not sure if she can trust her. And slowly but surely, this new kind of friendship develops.”

Sasha continues, “I love that it’s not just like, all of a sudden, everything’s OK between them, there’s still that glimpse into the past and their history.”

Janel Parrish and Sasha Pieterse need someone to pinch them.

The two stars of the original Pretty Little Liars series, are about to reprise their roles in spinoff show, The Perfectionists, this week.

Talking with Teen Vogue recently, Janel and Sasha are experiencing the same feelings they had when the original series started – a pinch me moment.

“It already feels like a little family,” Janel shared, saying that the new faces in the PLL family are already that – family.

She adds, “They’re all so kind and wonderful and talented, and really it just feels like they’ve been here the entire time.”

“We all get along so well, and I love the dynamic between all of us and the way that we’ve bonded, and you can see it on camera,” Sasha says before adding that the lightning in a bottle feeling is there.

“It’s so rare that that happens,” she adds. “It’s kind of a ‘pinch me’ feeling because I’m like, ‘I can’t believe this is happening again.’”

Sasha Pieterse & Marlene King Open Up About Emison & The Twins' Future in 'The Perfectionists'

Sasha Pieterse & Marlene King Open Up About Emison & The Twins' Future in 'The Perfectionists'

There’s been a lot of talk about if and when Emily and the twins would pop up on The Perfectionists, seeing as Alison just accepted a job far away from them in Portland on the series.

Now, Sasha Pieterse and Marlene King are giving us new answers about what’s going on with our fave family.

“Alison and Emily will always love each other. They have these two beautiful babies together. It’s complicated. Life is complicated, and I think piecing themselves and each other and their world back together since A happened is difficult,” Sasha shared with TV Guide.

She continued, “To be honest, [showrunner I. Marlene King] hasn’t told me anything, so I’m actually not lying when I tell you I don’t know all the details, but it’s very clear that Alison loves Emily and the babies. I think both Emily and Alison need time to process their life and I think that’s what it is.”

That’s when Marlene stepped in: “Emily and the babies are safe in Rosewood. Alison comes to Beacon Heights because an opportunity arises that she can’t pass up. It’s very hard for her to leave Emily and the babies, but we will understand as the first 10 episodes play out what’s happened in that relationship, why it’s happening and why Alison is so far away from Emily.”

“People have relationship challenges all of the time and this is proof,” Sasha adds. “Their life is really complicated. You Google them and it’s just a disaster/ A lot of things has happened, but I think this [separation] is good.”

Previously, Marlene confirmed that we will see the twins in the spinoff.

“You will see the twins, yeah. They’re a little older now. I think they’re toddlers now. They’re, like, maybe 3 [years old].”

'The Perfectionists' Stars Open Up About The False Perfection of Social Media

'The Perfectionists' Stars Open Up About The False Perfection of Social Media

The stars of The Perfectionists look amazing in this shot from PopSugar‘s first cover story.

Sofia Carson, Eli Brown, and Sydney Park joins original Pretty Little Liars stars Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish for the feature where they open up about the pressures of keeping up appearances and achieving false perfection online.

“Social media is a beautiful responsibility that we have as actors,” Sofia shared. “It’s almost like a superpower to be able to connect with so many people at once, and to have such an impact. I think it’s incredibly important to take it seriously.”

“It is this seemingly perfect world on the exterior, and then once you crack the surface, you find imperfections and lies and darkness that we all have inside of each of us,” she continued. “I think the darkness gets heightened in our search for perfection. I think that’s kind of infiltrated into everyone’s world now through social media. Our world consumed by this strife for this unattainable perfection. That is harmful.”

Sydney added, “You find yourself comparing yourself a lot to other people and their highlight reel — what you’re seeing. We all do it. I’m not going to show the worst parts of me. I’m not going to show my bad days on Instagram. Some people do, but at least for what my job is, I have to keep this image, and it’s a lot of pressure.”
