Simone Biles continues to make history.
The 22-year-old Olympic gymnast showed off her skills while competing on the balance beam during the Senior Women’s competition of the 2019 U.S. Gymnastics Championships held at the Sprint Center on Friday (August 9) in Kansas City, Mo.
During her routine, Simone became the first gymnast to ever attempt and successfully land a double-double dismount from the balance beam at a competition (via E! News).
If Simone can repeat the move at an international meet, it will be named after her, according to Team USA.
Additionally, Simone became the first woman gymnast to attempt a “triple-double†in a competition (two flips in the air and three twists).
“Honestly as soon as I fell on floor, I was like, ‘That’s it, I’m scratching the meet, I’m walking off the floor,’” Simone said afterward. “On my last pass I felt like I had tears in my eyes, and that’s the only time I truly felt sorry for myself in a real long time. But you have to keep the momentum going.â€
“You’ll go your whole entire career and everybody will tell you you’re great,†she added while speaking to USA Today before the event. “But the minute … you say you’re good, (people are) like, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re so cocky!’ ‘`Cancel her,’ or this or that. There should be times where we can celebrate whenever we do a good routine…. I think it’s something you should have pride in. Not be cocky about it, but have pride in it.â€
