Here’s what the creator of the Disney+ series had to share in a new interview with ET:
On whether or not Nini will immediately tell Ricky about her offer: “That is such a good question that I can’t wait for viewers of episode 2×01 to discover.”
On if E.J. and Gina’s pairing will be revisited in season two: “So yes, to answer your question, do I see E.J. and Gina having further conversations and scenes in season two? I do just as much as I also see already– We’re turning in the sixth script of season two coming up and I already see such interesting combos all over the place, because these actors are so flexible and interesting that putting them in different pairings always leads to success.”
On Ricky and Gina’s pairing: “Something as simple as Ricky singing her a song in episode 6 can mean so much. And that is another thing musicals give you, which is the power of song, which is so inherently emotional and can tell so many stories that the script never could. I know we’ve got some Rina stans out there, and I’m hoping this show has five or seven seasons so we’ll see where they all end up.”
In “Thanksgiving”, a rambunctious Thanksgiving “cast party” at Ashlyn (Julia Lester)’s ends with surprising news for Gina (Sofia Wylie), while Miss Jenn (Kate Reinders) and Mr. Mazzara (Mark St. Cyr) accidentally spend the holiday together at East High.
Something has been brewing between Ricky and Gina in the last couple of episodes, questioning if there’s something more between them. Nini has taken notice and is getting jealous.
In the clip, Gina storms out of the holiday party, while Nini and Ricky get into a fight.
