Florence Pugh Lands The Lead In 'The Wonder' Movie Adaptation

Florence Pugh has booked another book-to-screen adaptation set in the 1800s!

The 25-year-old actress is set to star in The Wonder, based off of the 2016 novel by Emma Donoghue, Deadline reveals.

Set in the Irish Midlands in 1859, The Wonder “follows an English nurse, Lib Wright (Pugh), who is summoned to a tiny village to observe what some are claiming as a medical anomaly or a miracle – a girl said to have survived without food for months. Tourists have flocked to the cabin of eleven-year-old and a journalist has come down to cover the sensation.”

Sebastián Lelio is set to direct with production beginning in August in Ireland.

This is Florence‘s second adaptation set in the 1800s in recent years. She starred in Little Women in 2019, with the plot set in 1868.

If you missed it, be sure to check out Florence in the new Black Widow trailer, ahead of it’s July release. She’s reportedly set to reprise that role in the upcoming Hawkeye series on Disney+, though it hasn’t been confirmed, yet.

She also recently wrapped Don’t Worry Darling with Olivia Wilde and Harry Styles!

'Love, Simon' Author Becky Albertalli Is Getting Another Book to Screen Adaptation!

Becky Albertalli is turning another one of her books into a movie!

The “Simon Vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda” author will be seeing her second book “The Upside of Unrequited” adapted to a film, Variety reveals.

The movie follows “awkward 17-year-old Molly, who has had 26 crushes and exactly zero kisses. She’s sure love confessions can only go one way for weight-challenged girls: utter humiliation. Now that her twin Cassie is swept up in her first romance, Molly has never felt more alone. Finding a place in Cassie’s new world feels impossible, especially with her adorable co-worker Reid making things more confusing.”

Hillary Shakespeare and Anna-Elizabeth Shakespeare will write and direct the YA adaptation, with Becky serving as an executive producer.

“‘The Upside of Unrequited’ is so close to my heart, and I’m so happy and grateful this adaptation is in the hands of filmmakers who so deeply understand the complexity of love, longing, friendship, and sisterhood,” Becky shared in a statement. “The Shakespeare Sisters are masters of earnest, funny, heartfelt coming-of-age stories that never shy away from the beautiful messiness of love in all its forms. I can’t wait for my readers to fall in love with Molly in a whole new format, 27 times over.”

Becky‘s debut novel “Simon Vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda” was adapted into the film Love, Simon, which also spawned the spinoff series Love, Victor on Hulu. If you missed it, find out when season two premieres!
