'Diary of a Future President' Renewed For Second Season On Disney+!

It’s official – Diary of a Future President is coming back for season two!

Disney+ just announced that the series has been renewed for a 10-episode second season.

“Optimistic, heartfelt stories that inspire are fundamental to our content and creator Ilana Peña’s series delivers on these attributes in spades,” Agnes Chu, senior vice president, Content, Disney+, said in a statement. “Families around the world have fallen in love with Elena and the Cañero-Reed family and we are thrilled to bring Elena’s often hilarious and always meaningful journey through adolescence back for another season. It has been wonderful to partner with the extraordinary Gina Rodriguez to champion specific, diverse points-of-view and we look forward to seeing even more of President Cañero-Reed in this next chapter.”

Season two will feature more of Executive Producer Gina Rodriguez as the adult Elena, the future President of the United States, in a recurring guest role.

‘Diary of a Future President’ Is the Super Bingeworthy Series You Need to Be Watching

All ten glorious episodes of Diary of a Future President are now streaming on Disney+ and if you haven’t watched them yet, you’re really missing out on a series jam-packed with wholesome, sweet fun and so much heart.

DOAFP is a multi-generational story of a Cuban-American family that tackles very real and very relatable storylines for kids, teenagers and adults alike. The characters feel current, the dialogue is witty and sincere, and the casting is diverse, including LGBTQ+ representation. DOAFP basically has all of the ingredients for a perfect coming-of-age dramedy series fit for 2020.

The future President Elena Cañero-Reed is played by Tess Romero, who perfectly plays her confident, opinionated and often nerdy character. Newcomer Charlie Bushnell takes on the role of Elena’s older brother Bobby, whose exploratory story arc is unquestionably one of the highlights of the entire season.

Elena and Bobby’s loving and quirky mother Gabi is portrayed by Selenis Leyva (Orange Is the New Black). DOAFP was created by Ilana Peña and executive produced by Gina Rodriguez, who also plays the adult Elena and directed the pilot episode.

Rounding out the cast are Carmina Garay, Sean Glasgow, Nathan Arenas, Tiernan Jones, Jessica Marie Garcia, Harmeet Pandey, Jazzy Jade, Kyan Zielinski, Travis Burnett, Michael Weaver, Brandon Severs, and Chiara D’Ambrosio.

Who else has been loving Tess Romero on Diary of a Future President?! Same!

The young actress stars as Elena, a 12-year-old Cuban American and future leader, through the narration from her diary, the series follows those awkward middle school years which set Elena up to become the president of the United States.

Tess recently shared 10 Fun Facts with JJJ and we got to know the star a little bit more, including what she has an “unhealthy obsession” with.

“I’ve even lost a few close friends and family members over this as they attempted to let me hit rock bottom,” she joked with us. “Every time I think it’s behind me, I just continue to relapse.”

The young actor, who is no stranger to the entertainment world as he comes from a very talented family, stars as Bobby Cañero-Reed in the show, the older brother to Tess Romero‘s Elena.

JJJ recently got to know Charlie with some fun facts, including his favorite TV show, which is the reason why he got into acting, and even that his middle name was named after a legendary musician!

'Diary of a Future President' Actress Carmina Garay Knows a Song From Every Disney Movie!

Carmina Garay is dishing on her new show Diary of a Future President!

The young actress plays Sasha on the new show, who is the best friend to Tess Romero‘s Elena.

Carmina spoke to JJJ about working with executive producer Gina Rodriguez, who also directed the first episode, and co-stars in a few episodes.

“When I showed up to begin filming the first episode on Diary, (Gina was directing) of course I didn’t know what to expect,” Carmina told us. “I quickly learned that with Gina, I was in good hands. She is brilliant, super nice and so inspiring. Gina has such a way about her that I felt so welcome on this brand new set. Watching her work, I am so inspired to just be a better actress and try to excel in whatever I do.”

“The whole cast and crew of DOFP was so fun!! Especially on our Themed dress up days!! We had Onesie Day and Dapper Day and Hawaiian Theme special dress days (to name a few!),” she said about fun behind-the-scenes moments. “The fun thing was seeing how creative everyone got! I always looked forward to those days!”

Jessica Marie Garcia Never Thought Working With Gina Rodriguez Would Be Possible

Jessica Marie Garcia is having quite the year already!

The actress is most known for her roles on Liv & Maddie and On My Block, but she’s also going to be a part of the new Disney+ series Diary of a Future President.

JJJ spoke with Jessica about her hit Netflix show, as well as her part in the new Disney+ show, where she got to work with one of her heroes, Gina Rodriguez. We also got the scoop on her red carpet looks and more.

“I have admired Gina’s career so much that I didn’t think working with her was on the realm of possibilities,” Jessica told us. “It still baffles me to think she directed me in an episode.”

Diary of a Future President premieres TODAY (January 17) on Disney+, and On My Block season three will premiere on Netflix this spring!
