The now 17-year-old was joined by mom Terri, pregnant sister Bindi and brother-in-law Chandler Powell for the group photo with his sloth birthday cake.
For his special day, the crew at the zoo surprised Robert with a special video of his dad, the late Steve Irwin, talking about passing on the family legacy.
“Our lovely Australia Zoo crew made this beautiful video to celebrate my birthday, and it means the world to me â¤ï¸ I am beyond honoured to continue my dad’s legacy and I hope more than anything that he would be proud. I want to thank you for all of your lovely birthday messages and thanks to all who joined us for the celebrations at Australia Zoo today. Looking forward to seeing what this next year brings, in the last year of my childhood!” Robert wrote on Instagram.

Robert Irwin is paying tribute to his late father Steve in such a sweet way.
The 16-year-old environmental activist just revealed that he’s starting to learn to drive – and he’ll be using his late father’s old car!
Robert took to his Instagram to share a photo posing in front of the vintage car.
“Here we go! I’m so excited to finally start driving… and happy to be learning in the best car – Dad’s old Ute!!” Robert wrote.
Robert‘s dad Steve passed away when he was just two, but he has continued to honor him by continuing to work with wildlife.
The Irwin family are remembering the late Steve Irwin this weekend.
The famed Crocodile Hunter would have been 58 years today (February 22) and his children, Bindi and Robert, are paying tribute on his birthday.
“Dad, Today is your birthday. I had an extra strong cup of tea just how you liked it. I hugged Mum for you and told her how much we love her,” Bindi shared on Instagram. “Robert and I went on a hike through the mountains you cherished. I watched one of your documentaries with Chandler and shared stories about you. I walked through your office in the zoo and smiled at our old family photographs. Today and every day I miss you and love you beyond description. You’re always with me. â¤ï¸”
“Family Always â¤ï¸,” Robert simply wrote, along with a family photo.
Bindi‘s fiance Chandler Powell also shared a message for Steve.
“Thank you for inspiring me and the whole world to love all wildlife. You would be so proud of Bindi, Terri and Robert carrying on the amazing work you started. We will all make sure your message lives on for generationsâ¤ï¸ðŸŠ,” he wrote on his page.
The family of the late Australian zookeeper Steve Irwin (aka “The Crocodile Hunter”) has treated over 90,000 animals hurt in the Australian wildfires.
Bindi Irwin says that their family’s Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital has been working nonstop to help the animals affected.
“With so many devastating fires within Australia, my heart breaks for the people and wildlife who have lost so much,” Bindi wrote on Instagram. “I wanted to let you know that we are SAFE. There are no fires near us @AustraliaZoo or our conservation properties. Our Wildlife Hospital is busier than ever though, having officially treated over 90,000 patients. My parents dedicated our Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital to my beautiful grandmother. We will continue to honour her by being Wildlife Warriors and saving as many lives as we can. 💙ðŸ™ðŸ¼.”
“Blossom the possum was admitted to the #AustraliaZoo Wildlife Hospital after being caught in one of the bushfires burning in other parts of Queensland,” Bindi Irwin added along with a heartbreaking image. “We have such an incredible team who work day and night to protect gorgeous animals like Blossom. Devastatingly this beautiful girl didn’t make it even after working so hard to save her life. I want to thank you for your kind words and support. This is the heart-wrenching truth, every day is a battle to stand up and speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. Ecologists estimate that approximately 480 million animals have been affected by the fires in New South Wales since September, USA Today reports.
“Many of the affected animals are likely to have been killed directly by the fires, with others succumbing later due to the depletion of food and shelter resources and predation from introduced feral cats and red foxes,” a statement reads.

“Can’t wait for the Steve Irwin Gala tonight here in Brisbane! It’s going to be such a fun night celebrating Dad’s life and legacy and raising funds and awareness for our worldwide wildlife conservation foundation. And for everyone joining us tonight, we’ll see you soon on the red carpet!” Robert wrote on his account.
Robert was also recently awarded the Queensland Tourism Young Achiever Award. Congratulations!!
