Peacock Has Removed Selena Gomez Kidney Transplant References From 'Saved By The Bell'

Peacock Has Removed Selena Gomez Kidney Transplant References From 'Saved By The Bell'

Peacock is taking an extra step after the new series Saved By The Bell sparked a lot of backlash over the weekend.

After the show premiered on the streaming platform, fans noticed a couple of scenes that talked about Selena Gomez‘s kidney transplant, and called them out.

Peacock has since issued an apology, and noted they were going to be making a donation to Selena‘s charity, The Selena Gomez Fund for Lupus Research at USC.

Now, the platform has actually removed the scenes from the show, following all of the backlash and controversy, People confirms.

Though Selena hasn’t spoken out about the situation, her friend and donor Francia Raisa has.

“Appreciate the apology but let’s not forget about the donors that potentially felt offended and dismissed from the spray paint written on the wall,” she wrote on Twitter.

“As a kidney donor I want to show love and let other donors know that you are not alone. You are seen. You are appreciated. You are so brave and your selfless act is very much appreciated and valued!” Francia added.

Selena Gomez Has Received an Apology from Peacock for Offensive 'Saved By the Bell' Joke

Selena Gomez has received an apology from the producers of Saved By the Bell and streaming service Peacock after an offensive joke was made about her health in the new reboot series.

The show has two scenes about the identity of Selena’s kidney donor in episode six of the show’s first season, which is now streaming on Peacock. Fans expressed their outrage and got “RESPECT SELENA GOMEZ” to trend on Twitter.

In one scene, two girls argue over whether the kidney came from Selena‘s ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber‘s mom or her former best friend Demi Lovato. In another scene, graffiti on a wall appears to say, “Does Selena Gomez even have a kidney?”

A joint statement from Peacock, NBCUniversal, and the executive producers of Saved By the Ball has been released.

“We apologize. It was never our intention to make light of Selena’s health. We have been in touch with her team and will be making a donation to her charity, The Selena Gomez Fund for Lupus Research at USC,” the statement reads (via Variety).

Selena Gomez‘s fans are not happy right now and it all has to do with the new Saved By the Bell reboot on the Peacock streaming service.

Fans got “RESPECT SELENA GOMEZ” to trend on Twitter to express their outrage when they discovered that the singer’s health is mocked multiple times on the show.

For those that don’t know, the 28-year-old entertainer has been open with her health struggles over the years, including her battle with lupus and the kidney transplant she received in 2018.

In one scene of Saved By the Bell, two students are seen arguing over whose kidney Selena received. We know that the kidney was given to her by friend Francia Raisa, though the students think otherwise.

“I know for a fact that Selena Gomez‘s kidney donor was Justin Bieber‘s mom. God, I wish that I had my phone so that I could prove it,” one student says. The other student replies, “Prove what? That you’re an idiot? It was Demi Lovato‘s kidney. They’re best friends, like you and I were.”

In another scene, the words “Does Selena Gomez even have a kidney” can be seen written on the walls of the locker room.

Fans are calling for these scenes to be removed from Saved By the Bell. Read reactions below.

Selena Gomez Admits She Was Angry When Her Mental Health Story Got Twisted

Selena Gomez is opening up about her mental health and deleting social media.

The 28-year-old actress, singer and producer shared about revealing her struggles with anxiety and depression publicly.

“For me, I had to give up social media… so I would go through these periods when I wouldn’t [use my accounts],” Selena said in a joint interview with her mom Mandy Teefey with The Newsette. “But I got so angry that my story was twisted into so many different things. The first time I posted [again], I was like, ‘I claim my own story, so if you don’t hear it from me, then it’s not true. Did I go and get help? Yes I did. But I’m not ashamed. I feel better and I feel like I can understand a lot of things now.’”

“I think that was my moment when I knew [nobody] was going to take my story away from me. And I really do believe that I made the circle, if you will, of making the media look like s–t if they’re making fun of someone who has mental health issues,” she continued.

“I don’t really care what people think about me. On my own social media, I got to tell the truth. And once I started claiming my own name, I think people understood my mental health journey,” Selena went on. “Now I get to support other people, and with the Rare Impact Fund, we’re pledging to donate $100 million in 10 years to mental health causes, so now I get to talk more openly about mental health to hopefully help others.”

Selena Gomez Reveals She's Actually Voting For The First Time This Year

Selena Gomez has never voted before, until now!

The 28-year-old entertainer recently opened up during a live conversation that this year is her first time voting.

“Honestly, I’m not ashamed to say this,” she said on Voting Power Hour. “But… I’m kind of… This was my first time.”

Selena added that, like many Americans and people who haven’t voted, she didn’t think her vote counted.

“I’m going to say that, because I’ve never felt — and this is so true, and I’m now admitting it to people — like my vote counts,” she shared. “Every vote counts. Some people get in their head, and they’re like, ‘Oh, well what does it matter?’”

“My main focus has been this right now,” Selena added. “You can tell on my social media and everything, obviously, I’m super invested in this right now. It’s been good. I feel hopeful.”

Just a few days ago, Selena shared an Instagram post of her filling out her ballot!
