'Saved By The Bell' Reboot Renewed For Season 2 at Peacock!

Saved By The Bell is coming back for more!

It was just announced on Tuesday morning (January 19) that the reboot series has been picked up for a second season on the streaming service Peacock.

“I’m thrilled that Saved By The Bell has been renewed. I’ve been blown away by all the love for the show and can’t wait to go back and make more episodes,” writer and executive producer Tracey Wigfield said in a statement. “Hopefully we stay on Peacock for many more seasons, and then in 30 years, somebody does a reboot of our reboot and invents the threeboot.”

In the new series, when California governor Zack Morris gets into hot water for closing too many underfunded high schools, he proposes they send the affected students to the most well-funded schools in the state – including Bayside High. The influx of new students gives the privileged Bayside kids (who never have a problem that can’t be solved in twenty-two minutes) a much-needed dose of reality.

Saved By The Bell stars Josie Totah, Haskiri Velasquez, Dexter Darden, Alycia Pascual-Pena, Mitchell Hoog, Belmont Cameli and John Michael Higgins, as well as original stars Tiffani Thiessen, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley.

Peacock Has Removed Selena Gomez Kidney Transplant References From 'Saved By The Bell'

Peacock is taking an extra step after the new series Saved By The Bell sparked a lot of backlash over the weekend.

After the show premiered on the streaming platform, fans noticed a couple of scenes that talked about Selena Gomez‘s kidney transplant, and called them out.

Peacock has since issued an apology, and noted they were going to be making a donation to Selena‘s charity, The Selena Gomez Fund for Lupus Research at USC.

Now, the platform has actually removed the scenes from the show, following all of the backlash and controversy, People confirms.

Though Selena hasn’t spoken out about the situation, her friend and donor Francia Raisa has.

“Appreciate the apology but let’s not forget about the donors that potentially felt offended and dismissed from the spray paint written on the wall,” she wrote on Twitter.

“As a kidney donor I want to show love and let other donors know that you are not alone. You are seen. You are appreciated. You are so brave and your selfless act is very much appreciated and valued!” Francia added.

Selena Gomez Has Received an Apology from Peacock for Offensive 'Saved By the Bell' Joke

Selena Gomez has received an apology from the producers of Saved By the Bell and streaming service Peacock after an offensive joke was made about her health in the new reboot series.

The show has two scenes about the identity of Selena’s kidney donor in episode six of the show’s first season, which is now streaming on Peacock. Fans expressed their outrage and got “RESPECT SELENA GOMEZ” to trend on Twitter.

In one scene, two girls argue over whether the kidney came from Selena‘s ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber‘s mom or her former best friend Demi Lovato. In another scene, graffiti on a wall appears to say, “Does Selena Gomez even have a kidney?”

A joint statement from Peacock, NBCUniversal, and the executive producers of Saved By the Ball has been released.

“We apologize. It was never our intention to make light of Selena’s health. We have been in touch with her team and will be making a donation to her charity, The Selena Gomez Fund for Lupus Research at USC,” the statement reads (via Variety).

Here's Why 'Respect Selena Gomez' Is Trending on Twitter

Selena Gomez‘s fans are not happy right now and it all has to do with the new Saved By the Bell reboot on the Peacock streaming service.

Fans got “RESPECT SELENA GOMEZ” to trend on Twitter to express their outrage when they discovered that the singer’s health is mocked multiple times on the show.

For those that don’t know, the 28-year-old entertainer has been open with her health struggles over the years, including her battle with lupus and the kidney transplant she received in 2018.

In one scene of Saved By the Bell, two students are seen arguing over whose kidney Selena received. We know that the kidney was given to her by friend Francia Raisa, though the students think otherwise.

“I know for a fact that Selena Gomez‘s kidney donor was Justin Bieber‘s mom. God, I wish that I had my phone so that I could prove it,” one student says. The other student replies, “Prove what? That you’re an idiot? It was Demi Lovato‘s kidney. They’re best friends, like you and I were.”

In another scene, the words “Does Selena Gomez even have a kidney” can be seen written on the walls of the locker room.

Fans are calling for these scenes to be removed from Saved By the Bell. Read reactions below.

  • 1. I am Dominican & Puerto Rican! My mother is Dominican & my father is Puerto Rican.
  • 2. I am a Virgo! So I have a major perfectionist personality. It has its pros and cons for sure! (Hey September 10 birthdays!!)
  • 3. For as long as I can remember I’ve always put on shows for my family & friends, entertaining people around me was something I always loved to do. But my first start to acting was in the Theater. I attended Urban Arts Partnership a nonprofit organization that helped low income schools and kids have resources in the arts. I was part of their Lifestories program and out on many black box productions.
  • 4. My first paid gig was as Tatiana Garcia in NYC 22! I was about 15-16 years old, and I thought I had made it! Haha!!
  • 5. I grew up in Dyckman, NYC. It’s this neighborhood almost at the top of Manhattan; honestly speaking it’s the hood, but it was the only place I knew for a very long time. I never heard of success stories about people making it out from there, so I hope I can be of inspiration that YOU CAN make it out and become anything you set your mind too.
