Josh Hutcherson Opens Up About Why 'The Hunger Games' Was So Different Than Anything He's Done

Josh Hutcherson is opening up about his experience working on The Hunger Games movies.

The 27-year-old actor starred as Peeta Mellark in the film series, and recently dished on how it shaped the way he thinks about taking on future roles.

“It was worlds apart from anything I have ever experienced. It’s like a double-edged sword,” he told EW. “Obviously the benefit of having more projects come your way is great. But when I set out to become an actor at 8, being famous and being recognized was not on my radar. I just wanted to make movies.”

“That naiveté followed me until The Hunger Games slapped me in the face. It’s hard for anybody to digest, especially being a kid from Kentucky,” he continued.

“It made me realize the kind of actor I wanted to be. The idea of doing big, big projects that make you even more well-known doesn’t sound as appetizing. If that opportunity came up again, I would have to think about it more,” Josh said.

Francis Lawrence To Return To Direct 'The Hunger Games' Prequel 'The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes'

The Hunger Games fans, get ready!!

Francis Lawrence has signed on to direct the movie adaptation of The Hunger Games prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Deadline reports.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes centers on Coriolanus Snow at age 18, years before he would become the tyrannical President of Panem. Young Coriolanus is handsome and charming, and though the Snow family has fallen on hard times, he sees a chance for a change in his fortunes when he is chosen to be a mentor for the Tenth Hunger Games… only to have his elation dashed when he is assigned to mentor the girl tribute from impoverished District 12.

The filmmaker also directed all four of the series’ previous films for Lionsgate, and the production company will also be bringing back quite a few of the creative team from the film franchise.

The prequel book was announced last June, and will be released by Scholasticon May 19th in print, digital and audio formats in the US, Canada, the UK and Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.

'The Hunger Games' To Get Prequel Novel in 2020

There’s another Hunger Games book coming!

Via Deadline, Scholastic has announced that a prequel novel from author Suzanne Collins is on its’ way and set to debut in 2020.

The novel is said to be set in the world of Panem, 64 years before the events of the original “Hunger Games” trilogy on the morning of the reaping of the 10th Hunger Games.

As fans of the novel know, the eventual winner of the games was Griffin Naysmith from District 2.

Suzanne shared about returning with a new book, “I wanted to explore the state of nature, who we are, and what we perceive is required for our survival. The reconstruction period ten years after the war, commonly referred to as the Dark Days—as the country of Panem struggles back to its feet—provides fertile ground for characters to grapple with these questions and thereby define their views of humanity.”

It also seems there will be a movie tied to the book, as well.

Joe Drake
, Chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, shared that “we’ve been communicating with her during the writing process and we look forward to continuing to work closely with her on the movie.”

'The 100' Star Describes Tonight's Episode as 'The Hunger Games'

This new battle still from tonight’s all-new The 100 looks like it’s the start of a war.

However, star Marie Avgeropoulos says it isn’t at all.

“Instead of having a war that will lose thousands and hundreds of lives to see which clan gets the bunker, they decide on having one final conclave,” she tells EOnline.

“So one member from each clan fights on the streets of Polis, almost in a Hunger Games fashion.”

She adds that you really need to watch this tonight.

“It kicks ass,” Marie says. “When I watched it, I thought it felt like a movie. It didn’t feel like television.

“Die All, Die Merrily” airs TONIGHT @ 9PM ET/PT on The CW.
