Let’s get honest here – Monty is not anyone’s favorite character on 13 Reasons Why.
Much like Bryce in season one (and season two, as well), Monty is the most hated character out there right now – and actor Timothy Granaderos knows it.
“From a viewer’s perspective, I hope Monty gets what’s coming to him,” Timothy shared in a new interview with Seventeen. “Most of the threats [I'm getting] are towards Monty, not me.”
He adds, “Monty’s actions have sparked some strong emotional responses. And to be honest, I would be shocked if people weren’t reacting the way they are. Our fans are very passionate and I love them for that.”
Timothy, who isn’t anything like Monty at all, also talked about how he got into his headspace when they filmed the brutal rape scene with Devin Druid.
“In preparation for those scenes, I did a lot of research on similar scenarios. I was trying to understand the mentality behind such brutal acts of violence and I found that the root of Monty’s actions is pain,” he says. “On the days that we shot those scenes, I isolated myself as much as possible, and in between takes listened to very angst-y music.”
“The entire crew and my fellow castmates were more than amazing! Everyone was hypersensitive to the work, and provided a safe and nurturing environment.”
13 Reasons Why is streaming now on Netflix.
