'The Originals' Star Daniel Gillies & Wife Rachel Leigh Cook Announce Split

Why Did [Spoiler] & [Spoiler] Have To Die on 'The Originals'?

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD! DO NOT READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW!

Last night was the end of an era on The Originals and we bid goodbye to the Mikaelson family – and for some of them, permanently.

In the final episode, Elijah managed to take some of the dark magic from Klaus, which gave his brother one more day to spend with the people he loved – Caroline, Hope, and his family.

Klaus actually got to show Caroline his favorite city, before spending his final moments with his daughter, Hope and family with a dinner.

After their final dinner together, Klaus and Elijah met death together, and put an end to the dark magic of the city.

“When we started the series we knew that what we wanted to achieve by the end was a full completion to Klaus and Elijah’s journey,” Julie Plec shared with TV Guide after the series finale.

“Elijah was determined to help Klaus find his redemption and help him understand the power of unconditional love, and so we knew that along the way Elijah would take a dark turn as Klaus took a lighter turn and that the two of them would find themselves at the end, having completed that journey,” she continued.

“We weren’t sure how we would dramatize it at the end, but the choice to have them both decide to end life together was a decision that we made at the beginning of the final season.”

Daniel Gillies 'Stole' Elijah's Suits From 'The Originals'

Daniel Gillies knows exactly what he’s keeping from The Originals – all of Elijah’s suits!

Speaking with ET, the actor revealed that the suits are definitely going with him as the show wraps up; and it’s not just one suit either, it’s eight.

“I stole suits. Alright, I confess! CW, leave me alone!” he joked. “Here’s the deal, [the suits] were cut specifically for my dimensions. Who else was going to wear them? I deserve them, in some way… as a token… as seven or eight tokens.”

Daniel adds that he quite likes the suits that Elijah wore over the course of five seasons, plus another on Vampire Diaries.

“I like them tremendously,” he shared. “It’s an immediate character transition where you’re getting ready to play the role. You put it on and you suddenly feel like this other animal. It’s unique in that way, I love it. That’s how he’s known.”

'The Originals' Cast Gives Heartfelt Thank You to Fans Ahead of Final Episodes (Video)

Can you believe there’s only one episode of The Originals left before the series finale?!

When TV Guide asked the cast what they’ll miss most about their CW show, they all brought up their fans.

“This show wouldn’t have existed without you guys,” Joseph Morgan said. “You watched Vampire Diaries and you started putting all of these trailers online, making all these trailers for The Originals. I mean, you guys even named it… You took a couple of villains from that show and you decided you wanted a show about them, and I’m just so grateful we got to go on that journey with you, so thank you so much for that experience.”

“We really worked hard to tell great stories for you,” showrunner Julie Plec added, “And your passion and your enthusiasm and your total rage at me for saying the show was over means that it meant a lot to you, and I appreciate that.”

“Your love and your support and your kindness does not go unnoticed,” Claire Holt shared. “We talk about it all the time, and I’ll remember it for the rest of my life.”

Daniel Gillies Jokes About How The Most Played Song On His Phone Is Because of His Daughter

If you came here to get The Originals spoilers, we’re sorry, but you’re not going to get them from Daniel Gillies.

In his new feature with Prune magazine, the actor doesn’t say anything about the show. However, there are a lot of good comebacks and jokes – like the one he made about his daughter, Charlotte, dictating what kind of music he listens to.

“‘Let it Go’ from Frozen,” Daniel told the glossy about the song he had on repeat.

He adds, “Not my choice. My daughter’s. Ok, for realzies….a little bit me. Alright, I’m kinda fond of… Ok, I don’t have a daughter. Yes, I own 7 Elsa gowns with matching heels! Leave me alone.”

Speaking with TVLine recently, Phoebe‘s Originals co-star Daniel Gillies opened up about Elijah’s lingering feelings, if there were any, on the show after the latest episode.

“Entering back into this time, the most frightening thing is going to be is if he is in the same space as her again – is he going to remember her?” Daniel says.

He adds, “It’s going to be a real story of if love can be felt without the mind.”

Daniel Gillies & Joseph Morgan Preview Tonight's Elijah-Centric 'Originals' Episode

Daniel Gillies takes center stage on The Originals tonight, in an Elijah Mikaelson-centric episode.

“He’s a very different being,” the actor recently told TVGuide about how Elijah is without his memories.

Daniel adds that “he’s lost a millennium of information, but he has all of this kind of vampiric muscle memory, in terms of his abilities and what not. He’s discovering who he is.”

Joseph Morgan, who will pop up in certain spots as Klaus, also directed the episode.

“I was excited by the writing itself and then the fact that it wasn’t jumping around between storylines,” he also told TVGuide. “It was just one through line, so it was a chance to really, really invest in the story that we’re telling.

“I felt sort of like I was making a prequel movie about Elijah. So that’s kind of the way we tackled it.”

Joseph continues, “What I wanted to do, because we were on a journey, is travel with Elijah a lot, so there’s a lot of moving shots with him, following him. There’s also a lot of that kind of that gritty, grimy feel of New York that I wanted, as opposed to the beauty of Manosque and the piano bar.”

The Originals airs TONIGHT, May 2nd @ 9PM ET/PT on The CW.
