Jane the Virgin. Wow. We started shooting the first season of Jane in July 2014. A few days into shooting I turned 30 on set. Yesterday I turned 35. And today is the very last episodes, 99 and 100 airing of Jane The Virgin,” she wrote.

The Jane the Virgin and Carmen Sandiego actress – who recently got married – will both executive produce and have a recurring role as the President of the United States, Deadline reports.

She’ll also direct the first episode.

Selenis Leyva and Michael Weaver will star along with young newcomers Tess Romero and Charlie Bushnell.

The series, “told from the narration of her diary, follows 12-year-old Cuban-American Elena (Romero) as she navigates the ups and downs of middle school and begins her journey to become the future president of the United States. Charlie will play Bobby, Elena’s “sweet-faced but mischievous older brother.” Selenis will play Gabi, their “intelligent and loving mom.” Michael will portray Sam, “a lawyer at Gabi’s firm who is in the beginnings of a relationship with her.”

Gina, meanwhile, will recur as the adult version of Elena, currently on the campaign trail.

I’ll figure it out later,” she explained. “I just have to do this now. All the while you’re dealing with your silent little dragon in your head.”

Gina continues, “It came to a point, and this last season was the first season where I had to stop production. I had a really tumultuous season, and I was unafraid for the first time to be like, ‘I can’t.’”

Later on, she revealed that mental health will always be part of her platform.

“It has to be a part of the conversations I have with these young girls. I can’t just tell them to go out and make their dreams come true and then to ignore everything else.”
