'Riverdale' & 'Batwoman' Among CW Shows Resuming Filming After Temporary Halt

Some of The CW‘s series are heading back to work this week after temporary shutting down Vancouver productions last week!

Riverdale and Batwoman will be able to resume filming on Wednesday (October 7), Deadline reports.

The shows had to shut down their productions due to Coronavirus testing delays and are the first of the Warner Bros productions to return.

Other shows that film in Vancouver that are back to filming include fellow CW series Nancy Drew and Charmed, Disney+ shows The Mighty Ducks and Turner and Hooch, Hulu’s Mysterious Benedict Society, and ABC’s A Million Little Things.

The Flash, Supergirl and DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow are still awaiting the go ahead.

According to Deadline, “a local lab did not meet deadlines, leaving productions in the dark. There are no indication that there are any positive cases but, without definitive PCR test results and no rapid testing available, studios have had no choice but to halt production.”

Alex is no stranger to the world of Gotham and DC Comics. He actually previously played Sykes in two episodes of the Fox series Gotham.

Many productions have been shut down because of Coronavirus testing delays!

The CW’s Riverdale, Batwoman, Charmed, and Nancy Drew, as well as ABC’s Big Sky have all shut down in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Variety reports.

“There were some delays in test results, so out of caution we shut down yesterday and today. We expect to resume production either tomorrow or Friday,” Big Sky‘s executive producer David E. Kelley said during a press conference for the Television Critics Association.

Other shows being affected reportedly include Hulu’s The Mysterious Benedict Society, The CW’s The Flash, Supergirl and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

Variety says that according to a source, “there is a single lab company approved to oversee coronavirus testing, and the company is prioritizing schools, which have reopened in the province, and local businesses.”

This shut down is only temporary, and filming is expected to resume by the end of the week.

The new Batwoman has arrived!

Star Javicia Leslie shared a first look as her suited up as the superhero with a first look pic on her Instagram tonight.

“Look out, Gotham, I’m suited up and ready to go…” Javicia captioned the first look on her Instagram. “But just wait until Ryan Wilder puts her own spin on the Batsuit. @cwbatwoman”

Javicia replaced Ruby Rose in the title role but will be playing a different character on the show and not Kate Kane.

She’ll star as Ryan Wilder, who is a “girl who would steal milk for an alley cat and could also kill you with her bare hands, Ryan is the most dangerous type of fighter: highly skilled and wildly undisciplined. An out lesbian. Athletic. Raw. Passionate. Fallible. And very much not your stereotypical all-American hero.”

Ruby bowed out of the series after suffering an injury on set.

Javicia Leslie opens up about her upcoming Batwoman character!

The 33-year-old recently dished on the similarities she shares with Ryan Wilder.

“When I read the character description, it was definitely me,” Javicia told EW. “I loved the idea that it’s like goofy meets badass meets a person who doesn’t like to be told what to do, a person who does not like to follow the rules.”

“It’s really hard for me sometimes when it comes to like, ‘Well, okay, you have to do it this way as Javicia versus what you had to do when you’re an actor and you’re trying to present yourself,’” she added. “I loved the fact that Ryan is just who I am — just a hot mess.”

“I’m really into action. This has literally been my dream. It’s so funny because in May I did an interview and I said, ‘One of my future goals and one of biggest dreams is to become a superhero,’” Javicia said. “I wanted to be a Black superhero. You don’t get to see that that often. Then a month later, I become the first Black Batwoman.”

We are getting more details about the upcoming second season of Batwoman!

The cast took part in a panel during DC FanDome on Saturday (September 12), where they chatted about the new season, where Javicia Leslie is taking over the title role as an all new character, Ryan Wilder, and we got some info on a new suit.

“No, I haven’t,” she said in response to if she’s had any fittings yet. “We were talking about doing costume fittings very soon. That way we can be prepared as soon as we get [back to production].”

“But I know Caroline and I were talking about how important it is that if we’re going to have a Black Batwoman, that she needs to be, like, a sista when she becomes Batwoman,” Javicia added. “It’s important for her to feel like the silhouette of her could still look like that, with natural textured hair and things like that.”

Javicia added that she’s been sending showrunner Caroline Dries fan art, saying, “Oh my gosh, look at this! This looks really good.”

“How can we be sure that Ryan isn’t hiding what makes her awesome, with this suit?” Caroline said. “So it’s going to be a bit of an evolution. We’ll see the suit evolve early on in the season. Ryan is like, ‘For me to feel empowered in this thing, it needs to feel like it’s representing something I’m fighting for.’”
